As soon as they stepped outside, Audrey couldn’t help but say, “You know, this really proves that money can make anything happen.”
She laughed at her own words, shaking her head. The only reason Adolf agreed so quickly was because Walter had hinted that he’d donate another library to the school.
Walter looked completely unfazed by the whole thing. “If we actually manage to get Robert on board, what he brings to the table is worth way more than just a library. And honestly, making things difficult for Jordan Smith is the best part.”
Audrey nodded. “You’re right.” She had no problem with his approach.
With the school taken care of, the next part was up to her.
She took it seriously. On the way back from campus, she was already hunched over her laptop, typing away and getting to work.
Walter had planned to drop her off at home, but Audrey waved him off. “No need to go out of your way. I can work wherever. Why don’t I just come with you to The Wilson Group? If you let me use a corner of your desk, I can finish the proposal today. We can talk through the details while I work. Promise I won’t get in your way.”
Walter didn’t hesitate for long. He liked getting things done efficiently, and it made sense to have her nearby so they could sort out any questions as they came up. It would save them both time.
So, they headed to The Wilson Group together.
Walking side by side into the building, Audrey could feel the eyes on them. Within minutes, news was flying around the entire office.
Everyone was whispering, trying to figure out who Audrey Williams was. How was she so close with the CEO? Most people just came in for meetings, but she was showing up with him at the start of the day.
Before, people might have thought it was just business, a coincidence that they left work together. But now, arriving together? The gossip was out of control.
Walter and Audrey had no idea what was going on outside their little bubble. Once they got into his office, they each got busy with their own work. Audrey made herself comfortable on the sofa, and when her laptop died, she just borrowed Walter’s without a second thought.
They worked side by side for most of the day.
Outside, the rumors were everywhere.
“The CEO brought her in again!”
“I saw them too. Is she going to be Mrs. Wilson?”
“I heard she’s some heiress from Cabinda, super high status.”
Walter nodded, his approval obvious. “No changes needed. This is fantastic. You’re incredible.”
Audrey couldn’t help but light up with pride, grinning at him. “Of course. Who else would’ve put this together?”
Her smug little smile was so cute that Walter laughed. Then he added, “I’ll have my team start working on this right away. You don’t have to worry about the follow-up. If you feel like it, you can check in on the progress, but there’s no need to do everything yourself.”
Audrey propped her chin in her hands and looked at him, eyes shining. “Will you come with me? This is our first real project together. And honestly, you shouldn’t always be stuck in your office. Take a break, come to campus, soak up the university vibe. Might make you feel young again.”
She always had a way of tempting him.
Walter just raised an eyebrow and said, “We’ll see. If I’m not too busy, I’ll think about it.”
“Deal!” Audrey replied, not pushing any further. She wanted more time with him, but she understood how busy he was.
Walter called Aiden in and quickly handed off the next steps.
