“What’s so funny?”

Sarah Brown had been to The Adams Group so many times, she already felt like part of the team.

“Ms. Brown, are you here to bring the boss some ointment?” One of the staff grinned, eyeing the bag in her hand like they could read her mind.

The secretary chimed in. “The CEO showed up at the meeting this morning with a split lip. A client teased him, said he must have a great relationship with his girlfriend.”

Getting teased in front of everyone actually made Sarah blush a little. She cleared her throat, trying to explain. “It was just an accident. Seriously.”

The secretary just laughed. “New couples are always like this. It’s normal for things to get passionate.”

Sarah realized that the more she tried to explain, the more suspicious it sounded. She decided to stop talking and made a quick escape.

Inside the office, Larry Adams was sitting behind his sleek desk, deep in paperwork.

He glanced up when the door opened, and when he saw Sarah, his eyes lit up with a smile he couldn’t hide.

She hurried over and dropped the ointments onto his desk. “Put some of this on, would you? Otherwise, everyone’s going to think I’ve been abusing you.”

Larry looked at the three or four different tubes and chuckled. “You bought this many? How long do you expect me to keep applying them?”

Sarah mumbled, “I didn’t know which one would work best, so I just got them all.”

Larry, of course, didn’t want to waste her effort. He scooped up the ointments and said, “Alright, I’ll try each one and let you know which works best.”

Sarah nodded, clearly pleased. “Okay, so… are you almost done with work? I ordered us lunch, it should be here soon. Maybe we can eat together before you get back to it?”

“Sure, sounds good to me.”

Larry put his work aside. Right then, his secretary knocked and brought in their lunch.

They sat down and started eating. Sarah decided it was the perfect time to bring up her parents' visit. “Tomorrow, I’m going to the airport with my brother to pick up my parents. Let’s all have a meal together afterward.

It’s just a meeting, so don’t feel pressured. Meeting them now doesn’t mean we have to get married or anything. I’m not hinting at anything, I promise. I just don’t want you to feel any pressure.”

She rambled a bit, worried he might be reluctant.

After all, they hadn’t been together that long.

She was afraid Larry would think she was rushing him.

But Larry just took her hand, looked her in the eyes, and reassured her. “I get it, Sarah. Your parents hardly ever come back. Of course I should meet them. Even if they weren’t visiting, I’d still want to find time to see them with you. Don’t worry, I’ll be on my best behavior tomorrow.”

Hearing that, Sarah’s worries melted away. She beamed at him.

After work, they went shopping together for gifts to bring when meeting her parents.
