Camila snapped out of it, cheeks burning as she stopped him. “We can’t. Not here.”
This was someone else’s place. Just thinking about doing something intimate here made her feel all kinds of awkward. Thankfully, Dennis listened. He pulled her close, his voice lower and rougher than before. “Alright. Whatever you want, Camila.”
He held her tight, waiting for the heat between them to cool down before finally letting go. Camila didn’t dare tease him anymore. After helping him get settled, they curled up together and drifted off to sleep.
The next morning, they got a call from Aaron.
The leader of the Red Spider outpost had been caught.
Aaron and his team had questioned him, but he was just a middleman, taking orders from above. “He said they only got instructions to chase us down that night. No one told them who we really were. But there’s something else. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but our people spotted Professor Keri.”
Dennis’s eyes grew darker. “Professor Keri was in Apex?”
“Yeah,” Aaron replied. “He was right near us that night, but we missed him. I had the team dig deeper. We’ve got some leads on where he is now. I’ve already sent people to track him down, so we should have his exact location soon…”
Mr. Byron grinned when he saw him. “Dennis, want to join me?”
Dennis nodded, and they set off together, jogging a couple laps around the artificial lake in front of the villa. As they ran, Dennis brought up what was on his mind. “Do you know anyone in the Red Spider group who goes by BlackScorpion?”
Mr. Byron, being the mayor’s son, kept tabs on all sorts of local troublemakers. He didn’t hesitate. “Yeah, I know who you mean. He goes by a different name now, though. Used to be one of the top assassins in the world. Red Spider was actually started by him and two others. You might’ve heard of them—RedFox and SilverWolf.”
Dennis’s tone turned sharp when he heard those names. “Those three bastards?”
