Chapter 888 Pardon My Inelegance
"A strange child?" Lucia was puzzled.
August also looked at her. Daryl caught a breath, confirmed that no one was watching, and unfolded the story.
Lucia was stunned. "How come a beggar showed up here? Are you sure you didn't make a mistake?"
Daryl nodded and said firmly, "I am sure. He looked starved, and I gave him a piece of chocolate before he left."
Lucia mused, "Could it be that he slipped in from outside?”
August didn't think so. He said thoughtfully, "The guards here are vigilant. They couldn't possibly let a boy sneak in."
"I think..." he paused, "he is living with the Smith family."
Daryl shook her head. If he's a test subject, he wouldn't have been in that kind of state. As I see it, he was abused."
No one would mistreat a test subject. It might affect the results of the experiment. She recalled it and remembered the bruises she vaguely saw under the boy’s sleeves. The Smiths were cruel. Lucia, who had two children, was distressed to hear that. Just as she was going to ask about the details, Terry came back.
Daryl's messy look surprised him. "Judy, what happened to you?"
Daryl smiled awkwardly and tucked her hair behind her ears. "Please pardon my inelegance. I got lost and fell in the garden."
