Just as she suspected, Morton frowned.
Celine let out a sigh of relief inwardly.
At least, he still cared about her.
Surely, he would come to her rescue to see her wronged!
To her dismay, Jason coarsely responded, “Just walk the other way when you see her the next time!”
Celine was caught in a moment. She widened her eyes in disbelief.
Unable to believe her ears, Celine stared at Jason in skepticism. “What-what did you say?”
Jason was growing impatient.
“It’s always a tit for tat every time you two meet. It seems as though she’s the unreasonable one but in truth, you stirred the pot. Celine, it was wrong for us to be together so it is only right that she hates you. Why bother putting yourself in such situations?”
Celine’s mind was blown.
Glancing at this man before her, she could not believe that those words actually came from his mouth.
Tears started to well up in her eyes.
“Brother Jay, do you think... I stir trouble with my sister on purpose?
Jason frowned.
In the end, he helplessly explained, “That’s not what I mean. I just want you to walk the other way.”
“Why should I walk the other way? Are you saying that I shouldn’t go anywhere Nell is present at? Jason Morton, how could you say those words? I know I did her wrong but I’m trying my hardest to make it up for her. What else do you expect me to do?
“Do I need to die to make her happy? Will you be pleased then? If that’s the case, why did you bother getting involved with me? Since you like her so much, isn’t it better if you two were together?”
Hysterical, Celine cried out.
Discoloration ran on Jason’s face.
Putting his hand over her mouth, Jason glanced around before hushing her. “Quiet down!”
Wailing, Celine was choked up out of grievance.
It tugged at Jason’s heartstrings to see her in such a state.
Pulling her into his embrace, he consoled her, “I don’t mean any of that. Why would I like her? I only have eyes for you. I just don’t want any more conflict between you two.
“You know you’re soft. You’ll always be the one at a disadvantage when you two come to blows. My heart aches to see you like this, do you understand?”
Celine bawled. “I think your heart aches more for her.”
“Why are you saying now, huh?”
Jason soothed her in a gentle voice, “I feel for you. You’re my fiancée, the mother of my child.”
He placed his hand gently on her tummy.
Celine’s intention was never to have a falling out. After the act of consoling, she should quit while she was at it.
Yet, the envy and fury within her had already erupted like an active volcano. There was no stopping it.
Who did Nell think she was?
Nell and Jason had already split up, but why was Nell still hogging this man’s heart?
After all that Celine had been through, she wanted to see nothing come out of it.
Fortunately for her, that woman was stupid enough to put on airs.
As long as she got her hands on the real manuscript, try as Nell might, she would not be able to clear her name of theft and frame tonight!
With that in mind, Celine secretly took a deep breath and suppressed her raging grudge.
On the other side.
The guest rooms on the twelfth floor.
Mia snuck out of the lift and found room 1201.
She had enquired at reception. Nell was staying in this room.
Celine had someone sort out the keycard. Her task was to get in and steal the manuscript from the computer.
Mia stuck the keycard on the door.
The door opened with a beep.
Filled with delight, she took a glance around to make sure no one was looking before sprinting in.
“Humph! It’s too late to find out now.”
With the situation working against her, Mia made a run for it.
Mia had only made it to the door when she realized that a few security personnel were waiting to stop her.
Throwing her a cold glance, Janet curled her lips.
“Spare yourself the energy. Of course I made preparations since I knew you were coming. Just surrender!”
The second floor was connected to the lobby by a revolving staircase.
The ballroom was still engaged in liveliness and auspiciousness.
To Nell’s delight, the attendees of the ball were not limited to just public figures. Her favorite fashion designer, Amy was here.
Nell had received news that Amy was friends with the headmaster’s granddaughter. She was supposed to be on vacation around the country but the headmaster’s granddaughter extended the invitation in light of the celebration.
This was exciting news to Nell.
It was a pity though. The moment Amy made an appearance, there was a line of people rubbing shoulders with her. Nell wanted to introduce herself but never found the chance.
It was during then when a server whisked down the stairs.
The server took quick paces towards his leader to say something. With the latter’s face seeing a change of emotion, he excused himself in a huff.
Nell silently curled her lips.
She put down the wine glass in her hand and took strides to the lift.
“Sister.”
It was Celine’s voice emerging behind her.
“Sister, the ball has not ended. Why are you in a hurry to leave?”
Nell turned back to look at her with a fake smile.
“I’m tired and I want to go back to my room and rest. Is there a problem?”
The smile on Celine’s face seemed forceful.
“No. It’s still early. There are many big names attending tonight. Why don’t you stay and have some fun a little longer?”
