Nell was so overwhelmed by the shocking revelation that it took her a while before she could respond again.
“Has the police been informed?”
The man shook his head and said, “No. Old K has too many skeletons in his closet that informing the police isn’t an option. For now, we can only investigate and settle this matter in private.”
Nell nodded understandably.
She could only feel a sense of crushing force weighing down on her chest.
The man had noticed her in a dispirited form and he let out a peal of soft laughter.
Once again, his handsome face went near hers and the man smiled and said, “Little Seven, now that we’ve finished talking about business, please tell me the truth. In the four years that you’ve never seen me, do you truly not miss me at all?”
Nell’s disheartened expression immediately switched into one of anger. She took one step back and stared sternly at the man.
“Gregory Graham! I’m warning you to never use your dirty tricks on me again! It’ll never work on me!”
Gregory smiled nonchalantly, it was especially enticing.
“Little Seven has broken my heart. It was merely four years ago when you’ve called me ‘brother’ with such affection, today it has changed to ‘Gregory Graham’. Why are you so heartless and brutal?”
Nell did not speak any further. She had had enough with his nonsense and started to leave.
Gregory’s laughter was still audible behind her. He said, “Little Seven, I’ve gotten your phone number. I’ll give you a call tonight, make sure you pick it up.”
Although his tone was one of mischief, Nell could not shake off the dreadful feeling that it contained a hint of threat as well.
Her expression sank and she hastily left the washroom.
After she had exited the washroom, Nell was disturbed by the incident and could no longer stay any longer. She bid Janet and the group goodbye before she left the event with Nancy.
It was already ten at night when Nell arrived home. Gideon was reading in his study room. He knew that Nell would not have eaten much at the event and had specifically instructed Aunt Joyce to prepare her favorite seafood porridge.
Nell did not have much appetite. She only took in a few mouthfuls before she left the rest on the table.
Throughout that night, Gideon had always been by Nell’s side.
Then, Nell’s phone started buzzing and it was detected by Gideon’s sharp hearing. Nell saw the number and was immediately clear of who the person was from the other side. While she was hesitating whether to pick up the call, she heard Gideon ask, “Have you found out who’s the person behind all those flowers?”
Nell was stunned. Perhaps it was a reaction of guilt, she instantly declined the call.
She lifted her head and looked at Gideon blankly for a while.
“Oh, I haven’t.”
Gideon was mildly unamused.
“Do you need my help?”
“There’s no need for that.”
Nell responded swiftly. If Gideon had helped, it did not matter if he had managed to find out anything. It would put Nell in a sticky situation where she would not know how best to explain her situation.
Gideon tilted his head in curiosity.
“Are you not feeling well today?”
Nell forced out a smile and shook her head.
Then, the phone went buzzing again.
Gideon raised his eyebrows. He saw the phone screen and stared at her with a strange look, wondering why she would not pick up the phone.
Nell felt her entire body tensing up. She debated whether to pick up the call before finally declining it.
“It’s just work-related matters. It’s too late now, I’ll call back tomorrow!”
Then, she covered herself in her quilt and sank into a deep sleep.
Gideon seemed to have sensed something. However, he refrained from saying any further and had also turned the lights off before going to sleep.
It was a peaceful night.
On the next day, Nell was woken up by the ringtone of her cellphone.
Before she could fully open her eyes, she was already connected to the phone call.
Speak of the devil.
Surprisingly, Gideon had not left for office even though it was late. He seemed to have just finished a gym session. He was only wearing knee-high socks and a pair of shorts.
A towel was wrapped around his neck as he was still radiating heat from his gym session. Noticing that Nell had been awakened, Gideon proceeded to wipe his body with the towel and said, “You’re awake.”
Nell smiled forcefully and said, “Yes.”
Gideon’s expression was better than how Nell had imagined it to be. However, he was still visibly disappointed at something.
He flung the towel aside and walked toward her.
“Does Mrs. Leith have anything to explain for today?”
Nell looked at him and swallowed her saliva.
“You’ve… Seen it?”
Gideon raised his brows and merely muttered, “Hmm.”
Nell laughed awkwardly and tried to explain, “It’s all a misunderstanding. I bumped into him coincidentally at the washroom and he insisted on discussing something with me. I’ve no other choice other than to stay, but I didn’t expect that this would be picked up by the paparazzi. There’s nothing between us, I promise.”
Gideon narrowed his eyes. There was a hint of coldness in his expression.
“Is that so? What a coincidence to have met him in the lady’s washroom. I didn’t know the Second Young Master of the Graham Family is a ladyboy.”
Nell was shocked at the response.
“What did you say? The Second Young Master of the Graham Family?”
This time, even Gideon was taken by surprise.
“You didn’t know about his status?”
Nell lowered her jaw. She gave it a few good thoughts before she shut it again and shook her head.
“I didn’t.”
