Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 354

Celine sobbed tearfully.

However, among the guests present, no one sympathized with her except for Old Master Garrett.

They all looked at her with gazes filled with disdain.

After all, she was the one who had preached to persuade the maid, Iris, to be brave enough to admit to her mistakes.

She had also pretended to plead for leniency to Old Master Garrett on behalf of Iris to gain goodwill for herself.

It was terrifying to think about what would happen if someone like her really managed to hoodwink everyone till the end with no one finding out the truth.

Hence, everyone naturally expressed contempt for Celine.

Gideon had realized the truth a long time ago. When Nell stepped forward to speak for Iris, he could guess who the real culprit was.

Since she had already gone forward, he naturally would not say anything more.

Old Master Leith and Old Madam Quinton were astonished. When they heard the truth, they felt both shock and anger.

They wanted nothing more than to tear Celine into pieces.

After all, the two elderly had already disliked Celine due to her grudges with Nell. They simply did not bother to argue with her because she was now Old Master Garrett’s granddaughter.

However, they had never thought that she would be so deranged as to attack a child!

Old Master Leith said in a low voice, “Old Garrett, this is your granddaughter. I won’t say anything else, but Lizzy is the only child in our Leith family. Everyone pampers and protects her, yet she had to suffer such a scare today. It’s not that I’m petty and like to bicker, but a child really can’t stand to be bullied like that. Say for yourself what should be done!”

Old Master Garrett’s expression was also quite hideous.

He had never thought that fault would end up on Celine’s head.

However, in front of so many people, he could not blame Celine on the spot either.

After all, she was the granddaughter that he had worked so hard to find. Everyone knew full well that although today’s party was ostensibly to celebrate his birthday, it was, in fact, a formal introduction of Celine’s identity to everyone.

If he embarrassed Celine here in public, it would be no different than slapping his own face.

Therefore, he said solemnly, “This matter is indeed Celine’s fault. I’ll make her apologize personally to you.”

Then, he shot Celine a look.

Celine quickly went forward and sobbed. “Sister, I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have played with Lizzy like that. I saw her fall but ran away because I was scared. I was wrong. I’m really sorry.”

After that, she turned to say to Lizzy, “Lizzy, Auntie didn’t mean to hurt you. Auntie just wanted to play with you. I know that I was wrong. Can you forgive me?”

It had to be said that if Celine was willing to bow down and apologize to a child, the scene would indeed be a very heartwarming one.

At least, when others saw her humble herself before the mother and daughter, some people would feel pity and compassion in their hearts.

Sure enough, some of the men present soon spoke up for her.

“Mrs. Leith, the Second Miss didn’t mean it, and the child is fine too. Since we’re all relatives, why don’t we just forget about it?”

“Yes, she has already apologized. Anyone can make mistakes. It’s better to forgive them if possible!”

“Today is a joyous day after all. Why don’t we just relax and stop fussing.”

“At any rate, we’re celebrating Old Master Garrett’s birthday. Do it for his sake.”

Old Master Garrett also looked at Nell with expectant eyes.

He knew that Lizzy was now Nell’s daughter. It did not matter if Old Master Leith or Old Madam Quinton said it was alright.

Gideon Leith and Nell Jennings had to be the ones to nod.

However, Nell was different.

Nell was Lizzy’s mother and was also from a younger generation. In both reason and sense, she could ask Old Master Garrett for a statement.

Old Master Garrett glared at her in rage but was indefensible and unable to find a rebuttal for a long time.

Only then did Celine panic.

“Sister, I didn't do it on purpose. I really didn’t mean to cause Lizzy to fall into the water. I know that you must hate me after what happened today!

“But today is also grandpa’s birthday party. Can’t you forgive me once for his sake?”

Although Nell had seen Celine’s shamelessness for so many times now, she still had to admire the thickness of her cheek.

She tutted and sneered. “Celine, you said it yourself that you didn’t do it on purpose, but do you have any evidence to prove that you didn’t intentionally push Lizzy into the water? Do you have proof that you were trying to pull her rather than push her?”

Celine paled!

Old Master Garrett suddenly slammed his palm on the table with a ‘bang’.

“That’s enough!”

His eyes were cold and stern as he looked at Nell. “The blame for causing little Lizzy to suffer a fright today is something that our Garrett family never tried to shirt, but it doesn’t mean that others can just slander us at will!

“Even if there’s no evidence that she tried to save Lizzy, there’s no evidence that she tried to kill her either! It’s better not to say implications like that so casually!”

Nell’s expression also darkened.

However, before she could say anything, Gideon had already spoken first.

“Whether it’s an implication or not, isn’t it just a matter of trusting the police to come over and investigate? I know that Grandpa Garrett is protective, but even if your granddaughter is precious, does that mean my daughter is just an insignificant trifle by the roadside?”
