Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 353

Old Master Garrett said in a low voice, “This toy butterfly was found in her room. Doesn’t it just prove that the murderer is her? As for her motive, even if she doesn’t want to tell us now, she’ll be willing to speak after she has suffered and she will learn that it’s useless to play dumb.”

Nell frowned.

She did not think that Old Master Garrett would be such an arbitrary person.

She shook her head and said seriously, “No, you’re wrong. Although this toy butterfly was found in Iris’s room, it doesn’t mean that it’s hers.”

These words immediately confused everyone.

They all looked at her in puzzlement, not understanding what she meant.

Jim Garrett sneered. “If this doesn’t prove it, then what will?”

“Of course, we’ll have to see more detailed evidence!”

Nell picked up the toy butterfly and displayed it in front of everyone. She then spoke up, “Everyone, please look. Although this toy looks very ordinary, if you look closer, you’ll notice that one part of its wing is wet. I carefully sniffed it earlier and found that it smelled like perfume. I didn’t know what perfume it was, but earlier, a person walked past me and made me remember that it was from Armani’s newest line.

“As everyone knows, this perfume was very popular the moment it was released and naturally isn’t cheap. Iris is just a maid and she wouldn’t be able to buy a bottle even with her yearly salary. If this toy was hers, how would there be such a strong perfume smell? I believe that culprit probably noticed that she was about to be exposed and threw it in Iris’s room to plant evidence and frame her!”

The crowd was shocked at the information. They had never expected that such a simple little incident would have such a complicated truth behind it.

Celine’s face, on the other hand, shifted as a touch of panic flashed in her eyes.

Someone asked, “So, who’s the real culprit?”

Nell’s lips hooked up and she turned to Celine with a vague smile. “What an unfortunate coincidence. I just so happened to smell this fragrance when I passed by that young lady over there. Second Miss Jennings, isn’t this your cue to stand up and explain yourself now?”

Celine’s face went completely white. Her eyes flickered as she stammered, “Sister, I don’t understand what you’re talking about!”

“Oh? It doesn’t matter if you don’t admit it. I don’t think the butterfly wing would end up this wet if you sprayed it on yourself and it got hit by the mist. If I had to guess, it’d be because the bottle was accidentally broken or the perfume was spilled, which caused the wing to get wet! Miss Jennings, would you mind letting me see what’s inside your bag?”

Immediately flustered, Celine tried to refuse, but Old Madam Quinton had already shot Nancy, who was beside her, a look. Nancy swiftly stepped forward and snatched the handbag away.

“What are you doing? Sister, it wasn’t me—”

Before Celine could finish talking, Nell had already opened the bag.

Sure enough, there was a wet mark on the inside of the bag. The aroma inside was thick, which was obviously the result of perfume speaking.

Celine looked at her and instantly paled.

Turning around, Nell handed the bag to the Old Master and sneered. “As expected. If anyone doesn’t believe it, you can come over and have a look yourself. Smell it for yourself and see if I’ve accused her wrongly!”

The turnabout had happened so quickly that, momentarily, nobody could respond.

Yet when they reacted, they could not help but look at Nell in disbelief. A shocked discussion erupted from the crowd.

“How could that be? The culprit was actually Celine Jennings!”

“That’s unbelievable. I thought she was a good person when she was pleading for that maid earlier! Who would’ve thought that she was the real culprit!”

She looked at Nell, then at Old Master Garrett, and explained in a trembling voice. “Grandpa, I-I didn’t harm Lizzy. I have no grudge against her, so why would I harm her?”

Along with her shaky voice, her weak and pitiful appearance immediately brought a frown to Old Master Garrett’s face. A hint of annoyance flashed across his face.

Old Madam Quinton knew that Old Master Garrett would definitely be partial to Celine.

Thus, she quickly said, “Then, how will you explain this butterfly and you pushing Lizzy into the water?”

Celine hesitated before whispering, “I admit that the butterfly is mine. I brought it here to play with Lizzy, but I swear that I have absolutely no malice!”

Someone said sarcastically, “She has confessed but she says she doesn’t have any malice. How self-contradictory can she be?”

Harriet Brockman forced a smile and spoke up for Celine. “Maybe Celine has some sort of secret difficulties. I hope everyone will not speculate before hearing what she has to say.”

Seeing Harriet speak up, the person could not say anything else and could only shut up.

Celine then continued, “At that time, I took the butterfly and wanted to play with her and then give her the toy. I didn’t expect that Lizzy would accidentally fall in after chasing it to the pool. I was terrified so subconsciously reached out to pull her back, but it was too late and I couldn’t catch her.

“When I saw Lizzy fall into the water, I was so shocked and afraid that I wanted to go down to save her, but the people outside had heard the noise and came over immediately.

“I was afraid that everyone would say that I had pushed her down on purpose, so without thinking much, I just ran away. Later, I was afraid that everyone would misunderstand me and blame me, so I put the toy butterfly in Iris’s room.

“I’m sorry, I was wrong. I know I shouldn’t have done this, but I only did it out of fear. I didn’t mean to harm Lizzy at all.”
