Janet had taken into consideration the conversation she previously had with Nell.
Hence, she knew that the trip back to Jincheng was a must.
Only, she could return but the child should not be brought along for the journey.
Firstly, the child had just recovered from an illness and was still an infant. There was a possibility that he might relapse.
Secondly, Janet was worried that Ethan had not budged in acknowledging the child into the family. The child would be the receiving end, caught in a crossfire or clash between them.
Nell listened to Janet’s concerns and shared the same sentiments.
She nodded and said, “Jan, don’t you worry, I’ll take good care of Sunny. Just go back and focus on dealing with your affairs. I can guarantee you that your child will be in one piece when you return.”
Janet gave a grateful smile.
“I trust you.”
She paused and darted a longing stare at the child before handing him over to Karen. Janet got up and responded, “It’s getting late. I should head back now. Let Karen stay and help you with Sunny. She’s been taking care of the child and understands Sunny’s character. She has the experience.”
Nell nodded in agreement. She instructed Aunt Joyce to make arrangements for Karen and the child before getting up to send Janet off.
“What time is your flight tomorrow?”
“Eight in the morning.”
“Do you need me to send you there?”
“It’s okay.”
Janet hesitated for a moment and sighed.
“I hope all goes well for this trip. Honestly, I’m really tired of the year-long silent treatment but I will not compromise on the child. I don’t ask for my father to forgive me but I hope he can let go and allow me to take the path I’ve chosen.”
Nell listened with a heavy heart.
Nevertheless, she gave her an encouraging embrace.
“It’ll go well, I believe in you.”
After sending Janet off, Nell returned to the room and especially went to check up on Aunt Joyce’s end.
Aunt Joyce had ushered Karen and the child to a guest room and was making arrangements for their upcoming stay.
Fortunately, the house had many baby gear due to Lizzy’s frequent stays.
Moreover, Janet had instructed Karen to bring over necessities so the visit was not too out of the blue.
Once all arrangements were made, Nell took a look at the little bubba.
The bubba was sleeping soundly that even now, he showed no signs of waking up.
The tiny munchkin laid on the cot like an adorable little angel.
With the sight hitting her in the soft spot, she tucked him in and informed Karen, “Karen, I’ll have to trouble you to watch over him tonight. I’ll get a maid experienced with children to come to help you tomorrow. That way, you both can take turns in taking care of him.”
Karen smiled. “It’s okay. I’ve been with Sunny for a while now and I’m used to it. It’s fine even if it’s just me alone.”
Nell grinned without continuing the conversation.
With the arrangement done, she went up to look for Gideon.
Gideon was in the study. He asked when she entered the room, “Is everything settled?”
“Yes.”
Nell gave it a thought before speaking, “There are two more days to the New Year. I guess Jan will only return after the New Year celebration and I’m free for the next few days. I was thinking of having Lizzy come over to stay with us. She can also keep Sunny company.”
Gideon had no comment toward the suggestion.
“Sure, you can make the arrangement.”
The next day, Nell went to the Leith Residence.
Letting out a soft sigh, Nell kneeled and embraced the child. She said in a gentle voice, “Yes, really. When your body is all better, you stay with Mommy every day and never will we be apart, okay?”
Lizzy was overjoyed.
“Okay, I know Mommy is the best.”
Sitting at the side, the old madam watched the scene unfolded with tears in her eyes.
She had to say, Nell was awesome.
In the beginning, she thought that Nell would find it hard to accept this child.
However, it seemed that she selflessly saw Lizzy as her own.
While immersed in her thoughts, the old madam chimed in. “Nelly, come with me.”
With that, she got up and went upstairs.
Nell got up and although she was puzzled, she went along.
The old madam took her to her bedroom.
There was an old maid by the last name, Lindbloom, who tended to the old madam in the Leith Residence. Everybody called her Mama Lindbloom. She had been by the old madam’s side since she was young and had the old madam’s full trust.
During this time, she was tidying up the old madam’s room.
Mama Lindbloom stopped where she was at when they entered the room. She smiled. “Old Madam, Missus, you’re here.”
The old madam nodded. Without shying away, Old Madam Quinton informed her, “Help me to take out the old sandalwood box from the drawer.”
Mama Lindbloom acknowledged and went over.
The old madam pulled Nell by the hand and sat her down on a chair before saying, “Nelly, you and Deon have known each other quite early and didn’t have a wedding so I hadn’t been able to give you anything. However, from the bottom of my heart, I really like you, my granddaughter-in-law. With you around, I can entrust you with Deon and Lizzy wholeheartedly.”
The way the conversation was heading made Nell frown.
