”Last night?”
Jason raised an eyebrow and thought for a while. “Nothing much, just some unimportant matters.”
The smile on Celine’s face began to tighten.
Did he pay her a visit just to tell her something unimportant?
Who would ever believe that?
However, the Jason Morton she knew today was no longer the same as the past. His personality and temperament had changed, and sometimes she found it difficult to understand him.
Since he said that, she refused to press him further. She merely said in a tender voice, “If that’s the case, it’s fine. Actually, Sis has been down in the dumps because of the rumors about her and Director Coombs. You grew up with her, Brother Jay, and consoling her might make her feel better.”
Jason regarded her with an empty smile.
“Aren’t you jealous if I console her?”
Celine shook her head.
“Of course not, Sis is my relative and you are my future husband, Brother Jay. I feel happy when both of you are on good terms. Why would I be jealous?”
Finally, Jason gave a satisfied nod.
“You’re such a nice girl, Celine.”
Celine returned an insincere grin.
They stopped chit-chatting and Jason left.
When she returned to the film set, the sweet smile that Celine showed Jason was no longer displayed on her face. With a hardened expression, she walked towards Nell and, before anybody else could react, raised a hand.
“Smack!”
A tight slap landed on Nell’s face.
Everyone was appalled.
They stopped whatever they were doing and looked at her in disbelief.
At the next moment.
“Smack! Smack!”
Two heavy slaps were delivered to Celine’s face.
A stunned Celine cupped her face with one hand and glowered at Nell. She yelled angrily, “How dare you slap me?!”
Nell returned a hostile stare.
Nancy was busy pouring some fruit juice for her, so she could not attend to Nell in time. When she realized that her boss had been attacked, she got so furious that she charged towards Celine and kicked her in the chest.
Nell’s two slaps earlier were merely tit for tat. It hurt, but it did not do much damage.
In contrast, Nancy’s kick was merciless and it sent Celine flying.
“Nelly, are you ok?”
Nancy turned to regard Nell with sadness and worry.
Nell was caught off guard as well, for she never expected Nancy to make a move. When she came to her senses, she shook her head. “I’m fine.”
“How can you say you’re fine when your face is swollen? It’s all my fault, I was busy pouring juice and didn’t pay attention.”
Nancy kept blaming herself, but the rest of the crowd had begun to react to this incident and many of them gasped in fright.
Kylie was missing. Thus, for the past two days, Celine brought a slightly older assistant with her called Angel.
Angel screamed and ran towards Celine, trying with all her might to help the latter up.
“Elder Sister Celine, are you alright? How are you?”
Celine pressed a hand on her chest. Her face was already swollen and reddish while her lips ached. With Angel’s help, she managed to sit up on the ground and took in a few breaths. Following that, her breathing steadied and she murmured, “My chest… Hurts.”
“My god, why? She doesn’t seem like a bad person.”
“You can’t judge a book by its cover. Who knows what she’s thinking about?”
“She’s probably jealous that her younger sister has a great boyfriend, but she is still single!”
“Hey, I heard a rumor. Did you know? Nell doesn’t live with the Jennings. Apparently, she was kicked out. If her own family hates her, does this mean that she has a problem with her personality?”
“That can’t be! I’ve interacted with her and she seems like a nice person. I don’t find anything wrong with her.”
“Pfft, are you close to her? You’re just her acquaintance and she surely won’t do anything to you.”
“Thing is, even if she has an unpleasant personality, she isn’t a mad dog who will bite anyone she sees. Celine is her younger sister and I heard Nell’s stepmother gave birth to the former, thus the reason for Nell’s jealousy.”
“If that’s the case, what Celine said is true…”
The people passed comments. Nancy was vexed when she heard those remarks.
She wanted to say something but Nell stopped her.
Nell threw Celine an empty glance and approached her.
“You said I drove a wedge between you and Jason. Tell us, then, how I did it?”
Celine gulped and did not know what to say.
Nell squatted down in front of her.
“I merely offered him some kind words of advice and told him to be careful of the company he keeps, in case he gets used and trouble befalls the Mortons. But, you felt that I was trying to break up you two. Celine, you’ve been with Jason for a few years. Do you feel so insecure about yourself?”
Celine’s face was colored a fiery red. “You!”
“And...” Nell suddenly leaned towards her and held her gaze with her cold, hard eyes. She lowered her voice. “Did you forget how you ended up moving in with him?
Or, have you been too complacent in your role as the official girlfriend, that you have become amnesiac and selectively forgot your past actions? That which gave you the audacity to talk to me like that in front of so many people?”
