After sitting down for some time, it was getting late and the makeup on both women was almost done. Jason stood up and said, “It’s late and I’d better head back to the company.”
Celine frowned and did not want Jason to leave.
“Leaving so soon? Can’t you stay here and keep me company for a little longer?”
Jason comforted her patiently, “I have some matters to attend to at the company. Anyway, you’ll be too busy to entertain me once filming begins later, so I’d better not disturb you.”
Celine nodded when he said so.
“Alright then! I’ll send you off. You must visit me tomorrow.”
Jason made his promise.
Both of them turned around to go outside. Before they could exit the room, a clear voice rang out behind them.
“Hold on!”
They turned around and saw Nell sitting on the chair. There was a crease between her brows and she directed her gaze towards them.
“Jason, I have something to ask you.”
Celine watched her cautiously, “Brother Jay has to rush back to work. Can you save your question for later, Sis?”
For some reason, Celine always felt that something bad would happen when she stared into Nell’s eyes.
Thus, preventing them from conversing was the wisest option.
However, it was Nell and Jason. Who would listen to her?
Jason stopped walking and asked, “What is it? Ask away.”
Slowly, Nell smiled and got up.
“Did you really mean what you said to me last night?”
Jason was shocked.
Nell sighed and a disappointed expression appeared on her face. “If it’s true, that means I’ve probably misunderstood you all this time. I would like to apologize to you here and now. Thank you for your reminder and I’ll take note of it in the future.”
Jason never expected that she would ask about this.
A plethora of thoughts raced in his mind and various emotions surged within him.
Happiness, sentimentality, comfort, shame, disappointment… It was a huge mix.
Celine had no idea what they were talking about. An ominous feeling rose up inside her and she regarded them with caution and skepticism.
“Brother Jay, last night… Didn’t you leave immediately after exiting my break room? Why were you and Sis…”
Jason was taken aback. Once he regained his composure, he explained hurriedly, “Oh, I thought of something that time and decided to tell her on the way.”
Celine’s expression shifted.
“Why wasn’t I informed of this?”
“It was nothing important, so I didn’t tell you.”
“But…”
“Jason,” Nell interrupted her and regarded Jason with a smile, “Relax, I won’t go down the path you’re worried about. In return, I would like to offer you a reminder.”
Jason realized that she was serious. He nodded and looked at her with a straight face. “Tell me.”
Nell glanced at the anxious Celine.
An enigmatic grin spread across Nell’s face. “Although the Mortons have been operating and expanding their business in Jincheng for many years and are highly influential, competition is fierce these days. One wrong move will lead to a total and massive loss.
As the young master of the Mortons, the people you keep beside you are crucial. Hence, I hope you’ll be more careful and control the ones around you, in case they end up as a burden to you in the future.”
Now, the scandal had finally blown over and she had landed herself a role to mark her return, and she met that b*tch Nell again. The latter often sized her down on set.
If her comeback was not smooth-sailing and her performance in the show was not as good as expected, she could not imagine what her own outcome would be like!
Show business had always been cruel and unforgiving. Every day, skilled and talented newcomers entered the industry. There was no coverage on her for half a year, and half a year was enough to make some people forget about her.
If she failed to prove herself and her skills with a presentable piece of work, more people would likely forget about her existence.
Till then, Fenghua Entertainment, who had spent a great deal of effort and money on her, would face a loss.
She had paid a large sum for the penalty fees last time and the Board of Directors had voiced their displeasure. If she faced another loss now, as her boyfriend, Jason might end up taking the blame from the Board.
The Mortons started as a family business, but after undergoing years of expansion and large-scale investments, they were no longer a traditional family business today.
Thomas Morton was still the company’s biggest shareholder and had the final say on all major decisions of the company, but if the Board of Directors made a unanimous decision on their opinion of Jason, Thomas could not do anything, even though he was Jason’s father.
Nell was very clear with her words just now. Fenghua Entertainment was not the only company owned by the Mortons, but it was certainly the most profitable, well-established and had the brightest future.
If a big problem occurred, Jason would have a hard time dealing with his family.
As Jason’s fiance, Celine was obviously aware of this dilemma.
That was the reason for her anxiety.
Jason looked at her and smiled coolly.
“Celine, you’re my future wife. Therefore, you should trust me and stick with me through thick and thin. Don’t pay attention to what she said just now. I trust you just like how you trust me, do you understand?”
Celine calmed down when she heard his reply.
She forced out a smile. “I’m happy as long you trust me, Brother Jay.”
She paused and remembered what Nell said earlier. Then, she asked bashfully, “Brother Jay, what… What did you say to her last night?”
