Spoiled by the President novel Chapter 113

On the other side of the phone, Gideon sounded surprised. “Really?”

“Yup, really.”

The man ended the call in satisfaction after acquiring the answer that he was hoping for.

Nell heaved a sigh of relief. She suddenly remembered something and made a phone call over to Old K.

“Old K, you have anything new?”

“I’m on it! But nothing at the moment.”

Nell frowned.

Waves of disappointment washed over her.

However, she knew it was not a simple task to investigate an accident that happened five years ago. She remained silent.

Old K posed a question out of the blue. “Hey Nell, do you have relations over in the capital?”

This astonished Nell.

“What do you mean?”

“I found out the Jennings have been having very frequent exchanges in the capital recently. I’m not talking about business connections. But I haven’t identified the other party so I figured I might ask.”

The capital?

As far as she knew, Shaun Jennings had only been a broke university student before he married her mother.

Back in the days, the Morrisons were considered the richest family in the entirety of Jincheng. They had the groom move in to the family because of their only darling daughter. Grandfather gave his blessing to the marriage because he admired Shaun’s competence and efficiency.

The rest was history.

Shaun deceived everyone for over a decade, including her grandfather and her mother. After her mother’s death, the man even rebranded the then Morrison Corporation into Jennings Corporation, eventually occupying all of the Jennings' properties by force.

This was undoubtedly a shameless method of acquiring the top seat.

Although Shaun obtained some achievements in the end, it was considerably good that he could expand the business in Jincheng using the remaining influence left behind by the Morrison family. Why would he be acquainted with people over in the capital?

Nell frowned slightly but failed to come to a conclusion after a brief consideration.

“I don’t know. What does this have to do with my mother’s incident?”

“The two are not entirely related but I have an inkling. That person dropped by dressed in black windbreaker and mask each time, and all those visits happened at midnight. Do you think that’s an appropriate time to discuss business?”

Nell appeared slightly stunned.

She could not help but felt like something was strange about this.

“You’re right. Follow up on this! Fight for the chance to identify that person.”

“Sure, I’ll do all I can but that person doesn’t look like an average Joe. It might not be an easy feat.”

“Just try your best. Thanks a lot.”

Nell turned silent after the conversation.

She remembered Shaun saying that the Jennings’ position in Jincheng suffered a steady decline after her mother’s death, not to mention the oppression coming from Hancock. It seemed impossible that he would search for a way out in the capital.

Perhaps the person who came knocking on their door at midnight was indeed there for something more than business.

What could it be?

Her brows furrowed.

Instead of rushing home at night, she went to the studio to check on those members planning to participate in talent shows after the festive holidays.

Despite the festive season, the members had been assigned a hectic training schedule because the competition was approaching. It was also because of this reason that they did not return home for the celebration.

Nell consoled them with red packets. She finally left after another round of applause and encouragement.

It was already 9:00 pm when she headed home.

The winter night was freezing.

Her brows twitched into a frown subconsciously.

She pondered for a long time but still could not come up with anyone within Celine’s connections that would treat her with such respect.

The person led Celine into the villa and the gates closed. Nell remained sitting in her car since she obviously could not go any nearer.

She stayed there for several moments, waiting. Realizing it was not a feasible plan to keep going like this, she decided that it was probably time to take her leave.

Right at this moment, she suddenly heard the wailing of a child.

Nell was completely shocked. Thinking that she might have misheard it, she rolled down the window to reconfirm her doubts. Indeed, someone was crying.

She was currently in the road positioned quite a distance away from the villas. Low shrubs were planted along both sides of the wide road about two years ago.

Nell got out of the car and started walking toward the source of the noise. She only took several steps before discovering a child about three to four years old crying miserably on a tree stump.

She was terrified.

Soft rays of moonlight peaked through the dense leaves to illuminate the enormous uncanny darkness.

The intense silence in the surroundings made the crying of the child sound particularly deafening. The echo that bounced off the empty streets sent shivers down her spine.

Nell swallowed back her fear.

In the end, she mustered her courage to walk forward, one step at a time.

“Are you okay, little girl?”

She called out. The little girl who was sitting on the tree stump turned around to reveal a tiny enchanting face.

Despite the darkness, the soft moonlight revealed that the little girl was wearing a white dress layered beneath a pink knitted jacket. Her hair was slightly curled.

That cute little face partly hidden beneath the white fur collar of the jacket made her look like a delicate fairy of the night. She made an adorable sight to look at.

Nell’s eyes twinkled with brilliance.
