Tremendous changes had taken place in those three years of Nell’s life. It could be said that joining this club almost transformed her entire life.
Something happened in the end, and she left the club to return to her country of origin all by herself.
She cut off almost all connections with the Dragon Regiment in the past couple of years.
No one else knew of her whereabouts apart from Old K, who was responsible for the sub branch and also left the club earlier than planned.
In spite of that, Nell had been keeping an eye on the club’s activities throughout the past two years.
She learned about the waves of reform that surged through the Dragon Regiment. However, she was not fully aware of the details as she was living quite a distance away.
It was out of expectation that things would take such an ugly turn.
Calends, if she remembered correctly, was Daniel’s apprentice.
Daniel had been financially supporting the orphan girl with her studies. It was only later, when he discovered her talents in car racing, that he recruited her into the Dragon Regiment.
The young lady, who was about eighteen or nineteen years old, had not even graduated from university yet. She had only joined the club for three years. Why would anyone harm her?
“What actually happened?”
Nell’s face darkened.
Daniel shook his head.
“It was an assassination. The body was found in the lake. Killer still unknown.”
“You guys offended someone?”
Laughter escaped Daniel’s mouth.
“We’ve offended many people but no one has dared to challenge us throughout all these years.”
A heavy silence.
Daniel was right.
Although it did seem like that there was internal strife going on within the Dragon Regiment, they still stood in unison when it came to fighting against their external enemies. They had gained a reputation for their power and influence after all these years of expansion thus not many people dared to offend them.
Not to mention that this involved… Murder!
Daniel flashed a smile upon seeing her solemn expression.
“Well, I just brought this up casually. She’s my apprentice, not yours. You don’t have to appear as if having fostered a great bitterness or deep hatred.”
Daniel petted her on the head playfully.
Nell glared at him.
Despite that, she knew full well that she had left the club for two years now, thus there was not much she could do to assist with the misfortune.
She changed the conversation topic at the thought of that. “Well, why don’t you enlighten me with the real reason for your visit?”
Daniel raised his eyebrows cynically. “To support your career of course!” he said with a smile.
“Meaning?”
“Tsk, you’ve abandoned the car racing industry for the better. Surely your good friend has to come home to show some support? Coincidentally, I’m planning to expand my career back here. I can’t be bothered to go somewhere else. Would you take me in?”
Nell threw him a suspicious glance.
“That’s it?”
“What else are you expecting?”
Daniel smiled. “I’m aware that you’re now Gideon Leith’s wife so perhaps you don’t care about my meagre support anyway. But well, we’re humans! What’s more important than living on a clear conscience? Don’t worry, I don’t mind that you’re a married woman…”
An elbow came flying toward his direction before he could finish speaking.
Daniel, who expected it,quickly dodged away while laughing. “Tsk, what’s with the blush? I’m only kidding!”
An indifferent expression washed over Nell. “How did you learn about my affairs?”
“You didn’t deliberately try to conceal it. It was almost too simple.”
Nell gave that some thought and realized he was right.
Although she did not publicize her relationship with Gideon, they did not exactly try to make it a secret either.
Both of them always attended events in pairs. People would know if they had paid attention.
Daniel was a man with an extensive network. It was not particularly surprising that he would find out about this.
Daniel’s eyes shone with light.
“Why? You want to come over to mine? Welcome! We can have a candlelight dinner and then some good conversations in the dim light…”
“Stop it. I’ll ask your agent later! Remember, behave yourself when you work under me. Don’t bring me trouble, especially romantic scandals, or I’ll teach you a lesson.”
Daniel appeared as if about to cry.
“Lil Nelly, you know how those women always throw themselves at me. I only have space for you in my heart. Trust me.”
Nell could not be asked to waste any more time with him. She left after reminding him of the essentials again.
She was unquestionably shocked about Daniel’s sudden return.
However, she did not put too much thought into it since that man had always been impetuous. Besides, based on the current trend, it was not unusual for artists to come home from abroad to further progress their career in the entertainment industry.
Nell received a call from Gideon by the time she arrived home.
Old Master Leith did not have much time left. Apart from Gideon, all his siblings had gone home with their children to celebrate Chinese New Year together.
It was supposed to be a joyful and lively celebration but the illness came knocking at the door unexpectedly. Fortunately, his condition had stabilized a little bit. It was not possible to cure the disease once and for all in such a short period of time because it was an old illness. The doctor instructed him to recuperate in quiet surroundings and try not to be overly anxious or concerned about things.
Nell could sense the hesitation in his voice. “Do you have something you want to say?” she questioned.
“Yup.” Gideon did not deny. He replied after pausing for a couple of seconds, “Nelly, let’s publicize our relationship.”
This caught Nell by surprise.
Publicize their relationship? Return to the capital?
She was not too concerned, to be honest.
Both of them had been spending the past half year together. Gideon had performed outstandingly all the while.
There was one thing that she was pretty certain of although she could not specify what was the feeling she had toward him. She knew she was not repelled by the idea of spending the remainder of her life with this man.
Nell lowered her eyes and pursed her lips.
Several moments later, she finally replied, “Sure. I’ll go back with you after I sort out the affairs about my mother.”
