“Don't be afraid. Now that we know Joy is still alive, finding him is only a matter of time. He’s waiting for us to bring him home, so we can't afford to lose our composure.”
Remington's voice was deep and steady, radiating an endless source of strength. Lizetta nodded, meeting his profoundly resolute gaze, and offered a soft smile.
“I believe you.”
Remington ruffled her hair affectionately. “Shall we go see Grandpa Nelson now?”
As to what hidden forces or trusted allies Eartha still possessed, Remington had his suspicions.
However, despite his previous investigations into her, Nelson and Jerome definitely knew the inner workings far better than he did. They needed Nelson to deploy forces here in Tranquil Meadows.
Lizetta was just about to nod when Nelson's authoritative voice echoed from the doorway.
“Remington, is it true? My grandson... was he really hidden away by Eartha?”
Lizetta turned in surprise to find Nelson gripping the doorframe. She had no idea how long he had been standing there.
Clearly, Remington's abrupt entrance had woken the older man.
Lizetta hastily hopped off Remington's lap and ran barefoot to Nelson.
“Grandpa Nelson, you were running a fever last night. Why are you out of bed?”
She tried to support him and guide him back to his room, but Nelson grabbed her hand, squeezing it tightly.
Lizetta nodded at him. “Yes, Grandpa. Joy is alive. Eartha tried to use him as leverage against me and Jerome yesterday to escape her crimes. Jerome just received the DNA results. The baby that died back then wasn't Joy.”
Nelson swayed unsteadily, and Lizetta panicked, nearly failing to hold him up.
“Grandpa!”
Remington quickly caught the older man from the other side, securely guiding him to the sofa.
