But in the end, her mother had agreed.
Things had spiraled out of Eartha's control, backing her into a corner where she had no choice but to grit her teeth and go through with the surgery.
Lizetta was tired of arguing with her. You can never wake someone who is pretending to be asleep.
Eartha had long lost the conscience of a normal human being.
Lizetta stood up. "Did you demand to see us just to spout this nonsense?"
She didn't want to spend another suffocating second in this room.
Eartha's chest heaved as she tried to calm herself. Closing her eyes and opening them again, she finally spoke.
"I want you to clear my name. Write a letter of forgiveness, hire the best defense lawyers, and get me the lightest possible sentence."
Lizetta could hardly believe her ears.
She looked at Eartha in utter disbelief. "Excuse me?"
She honestly wondered if the arrest and interrogation had driven the woman completely insane.
Otherwise, after all the damage she had inflicted on her and the Madden family, how could she delude herself into thinking they would help her walk free?
Did she think the Maddens were just a family of suckers?
Remington's gaze darkened at her words.
He grabbed Lizetta's hand and spoke in a low voice.
"Whatever leverage you think you have, spit it out."
He didn't believe Eartha was crazy. Her earlier rant, however selfish, was entirely logical.
She was perfectly lucid.
To make such an absurd demand, she had to be holding a trump card of immense weight.
Remington was genuinely curious what kind of leverage could make her think they would ever let her go.
