Lizetta’s chest heaved as her voice broke with a choked sob.
"And, to Joy and me, you were the person we cared about most! You are my lover, Joy’s father! When Joy was taken from us, you were the one who was supposed to protect us, the one who should have fought ruthlessly for justice and the truth. Instead, you made me believe you were standing side-by-side with our murderers. The betrayal, the utter despair and collapse you caused me back then was the most lethal blow of all!"
If Remington had simply told her the truth, she might have found it impossible to accept; she might have turned hysterical.
But she would never have fallen into that bottomless abyss of despair, the agonizing feeling of having her heart brutally shredded by the man she loved most.
Overwhelmed by her surging emotions, Lizetta wished she could ruthlessly sink her teeth into the man before her.
And so, she did exactly that. She lunged forward, tilted her head, and bit down violently on his throat.
Driven by sheer indignation, she bit hard, holding absolutely nothing back.
The taste of blood instantly flooded her mouth. Remington didn't move an inch; he simply let her bite him, even tilting his head back slightly to give her better access.
It was the first time the man had heard her articulate exactly what went through her mind back then. Seeing her raw, uncontrollable fury, he finally understood just how catastrophically wrong his decisions had been.
Clueless on what else to do, he gently stroked her back with his large hand and spoke hoarsely.
"Liz, I'm sorry. I was completely wrong. It's my fault, all my fault. I never should have hidden it from you. I didn't realize that doing so would inflict a far deeper wound..."
With her teeth sunk into his throat, his vocal cords were restricted, making his voice ragged and trembling, yet heavy with absolute remorse.
Lizetta slowly calmed down. The distinct metallic taste of blood in her mouth made her realize just how viciously she had bitten him.
She slowly released her grip, revealing a deep, glaring ring of teeth marks right in the center of his neck, welling with blood.
No wonder her jaw was aching...
But her frustration wasn't completely spent. Lizetta looked up at Remington and glared at him.
