Sonny laughed. "True. As long as my future children don't go around starting reckless businesses or making stupid investments, they'll have enough to live comfortably for the rest of their lives. Still, I hope they'll be too proud to spend my money or inherit the family fortune."
"It's okay. When that happens, we'll help you spend it."
"You say that like you're short on money. You have enough to last several lifetimes."
Laurence had revealed his identity and taken over the Longbottom family. He also had Medicine Valley left behind by Doc. Just the medical herbs there were worth a fortune, never mind how much Longtail Group was worth.
"Let's not compare who has more money. We don't even know where our future kids are yet. We're thinking too far ahead. Anyway, I won't keep you any longer. Get back to work. I need to get busy too."
Laurence quickly ended the call.
Sonny put down his phone and thought for a moment before muttering to himself, "Bad news has wings, good news goes on crutches."
This was the first time he had ever been caught in a rumor, but even Laurence, who was all the way in Havenmill, had heard about it.
His mother and Dunc must have heard by now too. Hank probably had not heard, but Liberty definitely had. The Fisher family's intelligence network had become far more powerful than it used to be.
Still, Liberty had not called, so Sonny had no intention of calling her first. There was nothing to explain when it was not even true. Even if it were true, he would tell his mother and ask her to stop pressuring him to get married.
Constant pressure was enough to drive anyone crazy. That was why he could understand the helplessness Everly felt.
…
At FC & Co., a Maybach drove into the compound, slowly curving around the small garden in front of the office building, and pulled into one of the spaces beside the entrance.
