Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 5561

“I wasn’t trying to show off, but since you’re questioning my character, I have to defend myself. I’m not short of money. The Flemmings may have considerable wealth, but my personal fortune is no less than theirs.

“What I’ve always admired is Everly herself. Whether the Flemmings are wealthy or not has never been something I cared about.”

Nate was practically green with envy.

Sonny was telling the truth. His family’s wealth was on par with the Flemmings, but the Tatums were nowhere close.

Compared with the Flemmings, the Tatums were like ants next to an elephant.

That was why Andy had gone out of his way to curry favor with Everly’s uncle and asked him to introduce Nate to Everly. Andy had told Nate that he was counting on him to catch Everly’s eye.

Nate had shown a bad attitude to Everly the day before and managed to anger her again. She complained to his father, who had dragged him home and given him a brutal lecture. If Andy had not been worried about ruining Nate’s face, he would probably have beaten him too.

Andy told him that even if Everly was not willing to have him move into the Flemmings’ home, as long as she was willing to date him, the Tatums could still benefit from it.

Currently, their family was only able to keep going because of the benefits they received from the Zellers, and the Zellers were being kept afloat by Flemming Group through charitable business deals.

Sometimes, Nate wished he could be as capable as Sonny—capable enough to change the fate of his family and turn their company into a successful business.

Unfortunately, he simply did not have what it took.

Since he was young, he had spent his time drinking and partying. All he knew was that his family was rich. Whenever he wanted something, he just had to ask his parents. They would either buy it for him or give him the money to get it himself.

He had always thought that his family was one of the most influential families, with more money than he could ever spend in his lifetime.

It was only when he grew older that he learned the truth. In Clearfield’s upper class, the Tatums could only be considered comfortably well-off. They were nowhere near being one of the top elite families.

The Zellers were barely holding on now, but they had once enjoyed their share of glory. Otherwise, Everly’s father would not have married Maddie.

The Zellers were in-laws with the Flemmings. No matter what happened, Everly could never completely abandon her mother’s family. They had far more standing than the Tatums ever could.
