Who would dare trust or use an adversary’s subordinate?
Manny fell silent.
He stopped and turned to look at Misty for a long moment before saying, “Forget it, just pretend I never said anything. Tomorrow, you can tell Laurence that you’d like to return to my side as my secretary.
“I’m getting on in years and I can’t keep drinking like I used to at business dinners. Your alcohol tolerance is good, so you can help drink on my behalf.”
Manny valued Misty’s alcohol tolerance the most.
She was pretty too, so it was easier to coax clients into agreeing to work together.
Sometimes, he even thought of claiming Misty as his own, but Misty rejected his advances, saying she just wanted to get married and be a good wife. She refused to be a mistress or a sugar baby.
Even if Manny could provide a materially luxurious life, he would not get divorced to marry her. His wife was also from an influential family, and he needed her family’s support.
Plus, Manny had a few kids with his wife. Roxy, the oldest, was the same age as Misty.
Roxy did not like her, afraid she would climb into Manny’s bed.
If not for her excellent alcohol tolerance and being somewhat decent at her work, while Manny protected her, Roxy would have gotten rid of her long ago.
Before Tony retired, he had many mistresses, but most of them were abandoned after having been played with for a short while. If he was in a good mood when they broke up, he would give them a sum of money. Otherwise, if it was an acrimonious split, it was unknown whether or not those mistresses still lived.
Only those simple mistresses who did not fight or try to compete for more could live well, give birth to his illegitimate daughters, and get a monthly allowance from him for their living expenses.
Those illegitimate daughters could not be compared to those borne by his legitimate wife. They could only marry a normal person from an average family, unlike his legitimate children being able to marry into wealthy families and live good lives as young missuses of the house, without having to worry financially.
