After the tragedy thirty years ago, the Longbottom family lost its leader. Although Tony was ruthless, he was still restrained by the family’s rules, preventing him from gaining complete control over the family.
Everyone had ambitions. Tony had considered breaking away to build his own empire.
Thus, he never truly devoted himself to the Longbottom family. Instead, he spent much of his time eliminating rivals, suppressing capable members of the family, and secretly trying to convert family assets into his own private property.
The Lanes took advantage of the situation, capturing Longbottom Corporation’s market share and rising higher in Havenmill’s business world, nearly replacing the Longbottoms as the city’s most powerful family.
The two families ended their business ties and instead became fierce rivals.
The loss of that cooperation dealt Longbottom Corporation a severe blow. Then, Longtail Group emerged, and Longbottom Corporation suddenly found itself fighting two enemies.
Furthermore, Longtail Group built business relationships with the Lane family.
The only question was how the current head of the Lane family would react after learning that Laurence Young, the founder of Longtail Group, was actually the new head of the Longbottom family.
“Laurence already has business dealings with the Lane family.”
Manny sighed. “Whether we can continue being Havenmill’s top family is now his responsibility. I’m getting old. I don’t have the energy I once did, and my abilities are limited. I can’t contribute the way I used to.
“The Lanes are the maiden family of Laurence's great-grandmother. With that connection, maybe their relationship can be repaired.”
Elliott suspected that the Lanes’ falling out with the Longbottoms had begun because of the tragedy thirty years ago. Perhaps the Lanes had also suspected Tony and Manny, which was why the relationship had deteriorated.
Now that Laurence, the true descendant of a Lane, had returned, it was only a matter of time before the two families reconciled.
Of course, Elliott kept those thoughts to himself.
Saying them aloud would only anger Manny.
Although Manny was also a Longbottom, he belonged to a collateral branch. He was not a descendant of Laurence’s great-grandmother, who was a member of the Lane family, so why would the Lanes treat him with special respect?
