The country was vast, and searching for a person was like a shot in the dark.

He had dispatched numerous people to track down Laurence’s whereabouts. Eventually, they found a lead. A nanny had taken Laurence across state lines, and he had ultimately surfaced in Meadspring.

Jane, who was still just the Johnsons’ daughter-in-law back then, had rescued a baby in Meadspring. He suspected the child was Laurence, but there was no way to confirm it. The Lafayette family was not to be trifled with, so he did not dare provoke them.

Once Jane returned to the Johnsons, his men tracked her and confirmed that she had indeed taken in a child whose age matched Laurence’s. However, the outside world never saw the boy and had no idea what he looked like.

People did not even know the child’s name as the Johnson family protected him incredibly well. However, because his men were tracking Jane and lingering around FC Manor, the family found out, beat his men to a pulp, and delivered a stern warning.

After that, they could not dig up any information about the child.

Only now did Tony realize that they could not find any information because Jane had sent the child away to apprentice under a master outside of Annenburg. That was why his men could not uncover anything there.

He had later caught wind of a rumor that Sonny had a childhood playmate around the same age. He immediately linked that piece of information back to Laurence. Originally, he had planned to use Carrie Newman to confirm if the boy was Laurence.

However, that wretched Carrie had run off with the money he gave her, slept with two of his bodyguards, and vanished into thin air.

“Pops, what do we do now?”

Manny was growing increasingly indignant.

Tony was old, but Manny still had decades ahead of him. He had served as the acting head of the family for nearly twenty years, and just when hope was within reach, it turned out they were merely setting the stage for someone else. The sheer frustration of it was enough to drive him mad.

“Laurence will definitely guard the family heirlooms with his life, and it’s going to be incredibly difficult for us to steal them. Besides, we are running out of time. Laurence might very well reveal his true identity as soon as dawn breaks.”

Pausing for a moment, Tony continued, “The only path left for us is the one you mentioned. Once Laurence officially takes the position of the head of the family, we will have more opportunities to get closer to him. Then, our chances of making a move and succeeding will be much higher.

“That is our only option now. Go back to your room and get some rest. You still have to head to the company when it gets bright. Act completely normal. Don’t let Laurence catch onto anything.”

“I understand, Pops. You should also get some rest, and don't overthink it. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. Everything will work out in the end. There’s always a solution.”
