“Mr. Longbottom, you have so many questions, it’s really not easy to answer them one by one, and I’m not obliged to either.
“Even if I told you who took my adopted son in, you wouldn’t know either. And of course, he caught their eye because he’s a bright kid. It’s much better to hand him over to someone who can truly appreciate him than keep him by my side.”
Tony’s smile froze for a moment before he replied, “Mrs. Johnson, I know I’m asking quite a few questions, but I’m doing this to look for our missing child. He’s the only one left of his family, and we have to get him back.
“Otherwise, we wouldn’t be able to do right by his late parents and family. They were all murdered by lowlifes, and we have to avenge them.
“If you tell us their name, I can get my men to inquire about them and get their information.”
“You can’t meet him anymore,” Jane said. “At least, you won’t meet him when you’re alive. I don’t know if you’ll be able to meet him once you’re dead.”
She had never died before, so how would she know if dead people could meet people they knew in the afterlife?
Tony’s expression started to look unpleasant.
Roxy could not help but cut in, “Mrs. Johnson, my grandfather is asking you nicely, but look at how you’re replying. What do you mean, once he’s dead? Are you cursing my grandfather to die?”
Jane threw a cold glance at Roxy, and everything else Roxy wanted to say got stuck in her throat.
“Mr. Longbottom, I see your family’s upbringing is worrying. How can a child interrupt when their elders are talking?”
Tony immediately scolded Roxy. Then, he said apologetically to Jane, “Mrs. Johnson, my granddaughter is still young and immature. We just spoil her too much, so she’s a little bit too bold.
“But she was speaking in my defense, so I hope you’ll be generous enough to let it slide.”
“I didn’t say anything wrong, though. The person who appreciated my adopted son has passed on for many years now. All you’ll be able to find now is his grave. You won’t be able to meet him.”
The Longbottoms were simply speechless.
