Serenity and Zachary York novel Chapter 5378

Lilian snorted. “Depends on how you behave.”

Then she turned to Laurence and said, “Laurence, you spoil Noelle too much. That stubborn temper of hers is all your fault.”

Looking at Noelle, Laurence said, “Noelle has been by my side longer than anyone else. She’s too important to me. If I don’t spoil her, who should I spoil?”

“It could only mean that Noelle has become arrogant because she’s favored.”

Noelle hurriedly replied to Lilian, “No, that’s not it.”

“Have you not? Do you listen to what Laurence says? You don’t listen to him at all. Isn’t that being arrogant because you’re favored? You rely on the fact that he spoils you, so you ignore what he says, and he can’t do anything about it.”

Noelle opened her mouth but found herself unable to argue back.

She would handle anything Mr. Laurence assigned to her perfectly.

She usually listened to what he said, except when it came to personal matters and daily life.

Noelle was Laurence’s bodyguard and servant, while he was her master. In their daily life, he never put on airs or treated her as a servant, but she could not take advantage of his kindness and ignore proper boundaries by placing herself on equal footing with him.

Yet in Lilian’s eyes, that had become arrogance born from being favored.

Thinking about it carefully, Noelle had to admit that she was stubborn partly because she knew Laurence could do nothing about her.

Putting it another way, perhaps she really was acting spoiled because she was favored.

“In the future, when Laurence tells you to sit down and eat, you sit down and eat. When he tells you not to be so formal, then don’t be so formal. You’ve lived together for eighteen years. What is there left to be awkward about?

“Also, Laurence has so much money that he doesn’t know how to spend it. When he buys things for you, just accept them. Don’t feel embarrassed. He has more money than he can spend. If you don’t help him spend some of it, the weight of all that money will burden him.”

Noelle was speechless.

Something about Lilian’s line of reasoning always felt a little off.

“Let’s eat. During meals, we should talk about happy things. It helps with the appetite.”

Jane smiled. “Do either of you know any funny jokes? Tell us a few.”

Laurence and Noelle exchanged glances, and both shook their heads.
