Despite knowing his sisters were at odds with each other, Trenton still gave Camryn a call.
When Camryn received his call, she was walking down the hill with Grandma May and the rest while admiring the purple orchid trees planted along the path.
She stood beside one of the blooms and answered Trenton’s call.
Before her eyes, purple flowers were blossoming on the drooping branches. She could touch them just by raising her hand.
Camryn had forgotten the colors of flowers after living in the dark for ten years.
Ever since she regained her sight, she found the flowers in her shop extremely beautiful. Now that she saw the purple orchids, she thought they were gorgeous too.
The purple orchids usually bloomed from November to April.
“What’s wrong, Trenton?”
Camryn asked while touching a flower, “Don’t you have classes?”
“It’s the weekend, Cam.”
“Oh, I forgot. I’m not even working today, yet I still asked you that.”
Camryn laughed. “Aren’t you outside? Hang out with your friends since it’s the weekend.”
“I usually tutor middle schoolers over the weekend to earn some allowance, but I’m in the library today. The student I was supposed to teach today has a fever, so his parents called to cancel.
“Anyway, Carrie texted me saying she’s feeling unwell. She cried when I called her.”
Camryn remained silent and listened to Trenton talk about Carrie’s situation.
“When I asked her what was wrong, she said she had a polyp. She would have to go to a gynecologist and undergo minor surgery. I wanted to take a leave of absence and accompany her to the hospital, but she didn’t let me.”
Camryn said calmly, “A polyp? Is it cervical or endometrial?”
Trenton replied, “I didn’t ask about that.”
“I know, but Carrie is still my sister.
“I promised Mom and Dad I’d care for her.”
Yes, they did ask him to take care of Carrie instead of the other way round, when he was the younger one.
Camryn did not say anything else to Trenton. He was a loyal person and would never abandon Carrie.
“Have you been doing well?”
Trenton felt guilty for requesting Camryn to do something she disliked. Therefore, he tried to show his concern for her.
Camryn smiled. She said, “I’m doing great. Don’t worry about me. Just take care of yourself and study well.”
She did not dissuade Trenton from tutoring.
It was great that he was earning money and gaining some work experience.
