Traffic was light late into the night. They arrived at the Flemming residence after about ten minutes or so.

Sonny parked the car but did not honk. It was late, and the neighbors had gone to bed. Honking would have disturbed them.

Outdoor lamps lit up the yard, and the lights were still on in the main building. Sonny guessed Kaden had not gone to sleep yet and was waiting for his granddaughter’s return.

He turned to wake Everly. “Ms. Flemming, we’re here.”

Everly woke up almost immediately. She said after taking a look, “Press the doorbell, and someone should come out to open the gate. We have live-in domestic staff.”

The Flemmings had few family members, but the house was huge. If only three people lived there without live-in employees, it felt too empty.

Everly was about to get out of the car, but Sonny already took off his seatbelt and got out first.

He pressed the doorbell.

Very soon, someone came to open the gate.

When he saw it was Sonny sending Everly back home, the employee glanced at Sonny a few times, but did not dare ask. He merely greeted Everly.

Sonny got back into the car and continued driving, stopping in front of the main building moments later.

“Thank you for accompanying me tonight, Mr. Brown, and thank you for dropping me home.”

Sonny laughed. “Don’t mention it. Since I already promised Old Mr. Flemming, I kept my word. It’s very late, so you should hurry on in. I won’t come in. I should head back to rest.”

Right after touching down at Clearfield, he immediately got to work. Then, he accompanied Everly to the banquet later in the evening, so the weariness caught up to Sonny.

“You’re already at our doorstep. You should come in and have a cuppa. My grandpa probably hasn’t gone to sleep yet.”

Everly laughed. “If he found out you dropped me off and I didn’t invite you in, he would give me a tongue-lashing.”
