“Mr. Chamberlain, Mrs. Chamberlain, please have a seat,” Jade said with a welcoming smile, gesturing for the couple to sit before taking the spot next to Mrs. Chamberlain. “Mrs. Chamberlain, this is Nicole, the one I told you about. She is Reginald's biological granddaughter.”
Mrs. Chamberlain nodded, her gaze drifting toward Alicia. “She certainly has the look of the White family.”
Heath Chamberlain's expression darkened as he turned to his wife. “Why didn't you tell me you were coming here?”
After speaking, he shot a reprimanding look at Jade. “And you, Jade. Your father just called me saying you've been acting out lately, refusing to go home and keep him company. Why are you running around making friends with God knows who?”
Jade shifted awkwardly, forcing a smile. “Mr. Chamberlain, Nicole is my sister, the undisputed heir to the White family and the only granddaughter my grandfather ever acknowledged. Before he passed away, he left a will instructing me to stay by her side and help her manage White Corporation.”
Heath looked surprised, turning to Alicia. “But she has no room for you or your father.”
“The only one who couldn't tolerate anyone was Brandon,” Alicia replied coolly.
Jade nodded. “You probably don't know this, Mr. Chamberlain, but I'm nothing more than a pawn to my father. He is the kind of man who will use anyone, and I am no exception. Now that I have outlived my usefulness, he wants me dead.”
Heath stared in disbelief. He didn't trust Alicia, and he didn't necessarily trust Jade either. But if what Jade was saying was true—that Brandon wanted to murder his own daughter—that was utterly terrifying.
After all, even a vicious tiger wouldn't eat its cubs. Brandon had to be a lunatic.
Heath realized he couldn't trust a man like that anymore.
“Heath, this Brandon is simply despicable. How could he not even spare his own flesh and blood? I may not have been fond of Jade's mother, but we practically watched Jade grow up. How could Brandon do something so monstrous?”
