After Alicia left, Kenney immediately pulled out his phone to call Clayton, hoping to get in touch with Tyrone.
This wasn’t a decision he could make on his own—he needed Tyrone’s approval.
…
At Clayton’s place, Tyrone was sprawled out on the bed, nursing his injuries with a bowl of hot soup when Clayton walked in.
“You look pretty comfortable for someone who just survived a close call,” Clayton grumbled, unable to stand the sight. In his mind, Tyrone deserved to be working through his injuries, exhausted and miserable—only then would things feel fair.
“My wife may seem gentle, but that’s only because I protect her well. Don’t mistake kindness for weakness,” Tyrone replied coolly, taking another sip of soup. He couldn’t resist critiquing, “By the way, your cooking is nowhere near as good as hers. Way too much salt. Next time, skip it altogether.”
Clayton’s eye twitched at the jab, but before he could retort, his phone rang. It was Kenney.
Clayton puffed up just a little, assuming this meant Tyrone was needed back at work. He answered and put the call on speaker. “Kenney, do you need Mr. Lynch for something important?”
“Mr. Lynch, sir… your wife came to Evercrest Group today. She said she’s willing to liquidate all your assets—everything under your name—and invest it into Evercrest Group. I can’t approve something like that on my own,” Kenney said, clearing his throat uneasily.
Tyrone was momentarily stunned. He hadn’t expected Alicia to make such a move.
He’d told her before—Maddox’s fortune couldn’t be given to her for her own safety. But his own wealth? Every penny belonged to Alicia; she was free to do with it as she pleased.
Only in Seaview City would Reginald be relatively secure.
“I’m already working on it,” Clayton replied, leaning against the doorframe, his expression growing grave. “But there’s something you need to be ready for. Reginald knows he doesn’t have much time left. Before he goes, he’ll make sure Alicia’s path is set. He’s spent his entire life wracked with guilt for losing his son and daughter-in-law and for letting his granddaughter grow up alone. If he could, he’d give Alicia the whole world... If Alicia can carry that weight, it’s a blessing. But if she can’t, it’ll crush her.”
Clayton’s meaning was clear—if Alicia was just a delicate wife, she’d never be able to handle what Reginald left for her.
Not only would it be too much, it would draw danger and trouble from every direction. Clayton would do everything he could to protect her, but even he had his limits.
And with Reginald’s health failing, his anxiety had only grown. He was making plans for Alicia’s future, but that also meant her true identity could be exposed at any moment.
