Alicia nodded, her eyes rimmed with red. She still didn’t quite understand why Yvonne treated her with such tenderness, but right now, she desperately craved this warmth—this sense of family she’d always missed.
“Don’t cry.” Yvonne hugged her tightly, her voice gentle but firm. “Alicia, you have to learn to be strong. When you come back from abroad... you may have to face an even harsher battlefield.”
Yvonne let out a weary sigh.
The reason she’d returned this time was because she’d heard Reginald’s health was failing fast. Brandon had been poisoning the old man for years; although it eventually came to light, the damage had already been done.
Sooner or later, Alicia’s identity as the true heir of the White family would be revealed—probably before Reginald passed away.
What awaited Alicia was the coming storm within the White family—a vicious struggle for power and legacy.
Alicia took a deep breath. Until now, she’d thought her only responsibility was to protect Tyrone’s estate and keep herself and their child safe.
She had no idea then... that she was the real heiress of the White family, the sole successor to the White Corporation and its vast fortune.
...
After leaving Yvonne’s, Alicia headed to the Evercrest Group headquarters.
Alicia was no fool. The moment she saw Felix show up with that bouquet of white lilies, she’d actually felt her heart settle.
She knew Tyrone might be in danger, but there was no way he’d be taken down so easily by those people.
She believed in Tyrone—every decision he made, he had his reasons. Her job now was simply to protect herself and their child. That was the greatest help she could offer him.
“Mrs. Lynch.” Kenney Lockwood greeted her in the reception suite, still unsure why Alicia had suddenly come to Evercrest Group.
“I wasn’t expecting you, Mrs. Lynch. Was there something specific you wanted to discuss today?” Kenney asked politely, his tone tinged with confusion.
“My late husband invested most of Maddox’s inheritance in Lawson & Co. That money is currently under dispute and has been frozen by the firm. But my husband held many other assets in his own name…”
Alicia’s words were calm, almost detached.
There was no doubt this would help Tyrone immensely, but Kenney didn’t dare make the call on his own.
“I... I’ll need to consider this carefully. I’ll get back to you as soon as I can, if that’s alright?” Kenney replied quickly.
Alicia nodded.
She could finally breathe easy.
If Tyrone were truly gone, Kenney would be the one calling all the shots at Evercrest Group—he wouldn’t need to “consider” anything. The fact that he hesitated meant he had to consult with Tyrone first.
That was the real reason Alicia had come—to see how Kenney would react.
Relief washed over her, and she allowed herself a small, secret smile.
He’s still alive. That’s all that matters.
