Anastasia didn't know what to say.
Of course she disliked Susan, and she wasn't fond of Ryan either.
But for some reason, she could never bring herself to feel any animosity toward the boy in front of her.
She didn't answer his question. Instead, she said, “We’re done. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going.”
Then she remembered something. “By the way, I asked you to write down how your body reacted after taking the medicine. Did you do it?”
Seeing that she wasn't going to answer, Carter didn't press. He nodded. “Yes, I’ll get it for you.”
He turned and went into his bedroom. Anastasia glanced inside through the open door and saw that the room was very simple. Besides a bed, there was only a computer desk with an open laptop on it, and nothing else.
She wondered if Ryan hadn't noticed or if Carter himself preferred simplicity.
Considering Ryan had moved them upstairs specifically for his recovery, he must care for his son. So she guessed it was the latter.
Carter returned with a notebook. She opened it casually and saw sharp, incisive handwriting, which was quite different from his quiet demeanor.
She had expected him to just type it out on his phone and send it to her, not write it all out by hand.
Anastasia closed the notebook. “I’ll be going then. I’ll come back when it’s time for the next session.”
Carter nodded, standing by the door and watching her leave in silence.
