The news that Harrison was married to a woman named Anastasia from Fairhaven was no longer a secret, but she had yet to accompany him to any major public events. As a result, many had only heard her name but had never seen her in person. Today was the first time.
Anastasia remained composed under their stares, giving a casual nod as a greeting.
She didn't pay much mind to these friends Naomi was so eager to introduce.
If they were truly friends Harrison acknowledged, he would have personally introduced her to them when she first arrived in Riverton, like Barnett Austin and the others.
As for these people he'd never even mentioned? Friends? They were probably just flattering themselves.
Someone, annoyed by her attitude, shot her a disdainful look and said loudly, "Well, I thought she'd be some stunning beauty. Is this it? What on earth does Harrison see in her?"
"Didn't everyone say Harrison was going to marry Naomi? Where did this woman come from?"
"I heard her background isn't great. Who knows what tricks she used to snag Harrison!"
Anastasia had been through a lot and had heard far worse. She didn't even bat an eye, glancing at Naomi, who stood by without any intention of stopping them.
"I didn't realize before I came that the Lawson family kept so many dogs. They're barking so loudly, isn't anyone going to do something about it?"
The faces of the group immediately darkened.
"Anastasia! You—"
"What?" Anastasia lifted her gaze. "Want to fight?"
The girl who had stepped forward was taken aback by her sharp glare and instinctively stopped in her tracks.
A young man behind her pulled her back and stepped forward, looking at Anastasia with displeasure. "Ms. Sterling, we invited you here today to be friends. Isn't your behavior a bit classless?"
Anastasia crossed her arms and scoffed. "Class? I only show class to people. Are you people?"
