After settling everything, she saw that it was getting late and headed home.
On the way, she received an unexpected call from Bruno. He was thrilled to tell her that Gideon, after careful consideration, had agreed to take her on as his disciple.
Anastasia was stunned.
Gideon agreed?
She felt a pang of conflict, but on the other end of the line, Bruno was overjoyed for her. "There's a major symposium in a couple of days," he said warmly. "Most of the big names in our field will be there. Gideon plans to formally accept you as his apprentice then and establish your mentorship. You should get ready."
Anastasia was confused. "Why did Mr. Reed choose me?"
When Bruno first recommended her, hadn't he seemed less than impressed?
Hearing her question, Bruno couldn't help but laugh, a note of pride in his voice. "Your talent is for all to see. Gideon didn't know your background before, so naturally he overlooked you. But your performance since then has been more than enough to win him over. Of course he's willing to take you."
He knew what Anastasia was thinking, and before she could speak, he continued in a heartfelt tone, "I know you've always wanted to study under me, and selfishly, I would love to have a brilliant student like you. But thinking about your long-term future, Gideon is a far better fit for you than I am."
"Today, I'll be bold and consider myself something of an elder to you. I hope you won't disappoint my efforts."
"As for me, do we really need a formal title? If you want to learn something, even without being my official student, is there anything I wouldn't teach you?"
Anastasia was speechless.
His genuine care and concern made it impossible for her to refuse.
Bruno was thinking only of her best interests. How could she be so selfish?
Sighing silently, she said with conviction, "I understand. I'll be there."
In the blink of an eye, the day of the symposium arrived.
