Anastasia scoffed. She didn't believe a single word of that.
Simon, who was clearly quite close to Crystal, saw Anastasia's reaction and immediately grew displeased. "Crystal is just being kind! She's taking a risk to tell you the truth because she doesn't want you to be kept in the dark. Can't you even be grateful?!"
Anastasia shot him a cool glance but ignored him, instead taking out her phone and sending two messages.
Crystal saw this but didn't pay it any mind. She stopped Simon. "It's alright, Simon. I'm only doing this so I can live with my conscience, not for anyone's gratitude."
"What happened ten years ago?" Anastasia put her phone away and asked indifferently. "Why was he sent here?"
"I don't know the exact details," Crystal said vaguely. "I just know he must have done something terrible, and the family had no choice but to send him here."
"The family didn't plan to keep him here long. They even had someone posted to watch over him, planning to bring him back as soon as he calmed down. But..."
As she spoke, an unconcealed fear appeared on Crystal's face, showing she wasn't lying. "But no one expected him to attack his own guard!"
"When that man crawled out to call for help, he was covered in blood, his intestines were spilling out... he was barely breathing! If he hadn't used his last ounce of strength to get out, he would have died in there!"
The memory came flooding back, as vivid and terrifying as a horror movie permanently etched in her mind.
"...After that, no one dared to keep him locked up, so they had to take him home. The Lancaster family went to great lengths to silence everyone, forbidding any mention of the incident. But no amount of cover-up can hide the fact that he is an extremely dangerous person!"
She took a deep breath and looked at Anastasia. "Honestly, when he came back from Fairhaven and brought you with him, I was shocked. How could anyone dare to be with him?"
"But then I realized, you just don't know the truth. You don't know who he really is, so you were deceived!"
"Even though we don't know each other well, and you seem to have some misunderstandings about me, I just couldn't stand by and watch you walk into a pit of fire. That's why I asked you here today..."
She put on an earnest, pleading expression. "It's not too late. You can still get out. Anastasia, you have to leave him!"
