Mr. Lancaster Sr. had five sons: Barry, Todd, Victor, Harrison’s father Ryan who was the fourth, and Robin, who was not present today.
Officially, Barry had only one child: Harrison’s eldest cousin, who was Stella’s father. This cousin had been in poor health his entire life and had since passed away.
The reason it was *officially* one child was because Barry also had an illegitimate son, who was the father of Aaron Lancaster. That made Aaron Barry's grandson, which was why he referred to Harrison as Uncle Harrison. Barry’s obsession with Aaron’s family—to the point of angering his own wife’s family to set up his mistress and illegitimate son comfortably in Fairhaven—stemmed from his lack of heirs. His only legitimate son had been sickly and had produced only Stella, whom Barry, with his old-fashioned and misogynistic views, considered "just a girl."
Next was Todd Lancaster, who had four children.
Victor also officially had four children. However, during the time Harrison was away in Fairhaven, Victor had brought home an illegitimate son who was not listed on the family register and therefore wasn't officially recognized or counted among the heirs.
After Victor was Harrison's father, Ryan, and finally, the mysterious youngest son, Robin. Born late in his parents' lives, Robin was only a few years older than Harrison and remained unmarried.
Though the house seemed crowded today, many family members were absent. Harrison’s cousins were all married with their own lives and rarely stayed at the old estate. Since Harrison’s return had been quiet, they hadn't received advance notice and weren't here today.
