“She hasn’t shown her face here in years. It was always Ms. Lauren Brennan who managed the institute. I hear Ms. Brennan was framed by her and is probably going to prison now. Is she trying to ruin the institute too?”
The first few to speak were Dennis’s loyalists. Other researchers frowned, and one was about to speak up.
Anastasia was only asking for a single specimen of the Uling herb, not the patent rights!
She owned the institute. All their research was funded by her money. For her to only ask for the product while leaving them the patent was an incredibly generous arrangement.
But before he could say anything, a colleague tugged at his sleeve, shaking his head slightly.
The ones speaking were Dennis’s inner circle. The situation was obvious: Dennis didn’t want to give up the herb.
As the director, his word was law.
He had long been bought by Lauren. And even though Lauren was out of the picture, he had no intention of recognizing Anastasia.
Who would dare defy him? Speak out of turn, and you’d be out of a job by morning.
Just look at the current situation: everyone was crediting Dennis for the mutated Uling herb’s discovery, while no one dared mention the other name—Joseph White.
The researcher sighed and glanced toward a corner of the conference room.
A dejected, silent middle-aged man sat there. That was Joseph, the institute’s former director and the one who had truly developed the mutated Uling herb.
Years ago, Joseph and Dennis had been rivals, their influence in the institute nearly equal. But no matter how hard Dennis tried, he could never surpass Joseph and had to respectfully call him “Director.”
Everything changed when Lauren got involved.
