*Just a moment ago, she was denying everything, and now she’s confessing?* Juliet didn’t buy it for a second. *She must be covering for someone.* Her eyes darted to Lauren.
But before she could voice her accusation, Lauren beat her to it, staring at Penny with a look of shock and betrayal. “How could it be you? Why would you do this to Benson?!”
Anastasia watched Lauren’s performance with a scornful twist of her lips.
“I didn’t mean to hurt him!” Penny wailed. “I heard that adding that herb would make the medicine more effective! I just wanted him to wake up sooner! It was an accident! When Anastasia said it was poison, I was too scared to admit it. Please, I’ll apologize to Benson when he wakes up! Mr. Brennan, please, forgive me this once!”
Murray’s expression was unreadable as he glanced at Lauren, his suspicions still lingering. He turned to Penny. “Answer Juliet’s question. Where did you get the herb, and where did you hear it would make the medicine more effective?”
Since Penny was the one who had actually tampered with the medicine, her answers were flawless, leaving no loose ends that could tie back to Lauren.
In the end, Mr. Brennan, his face like stone, delivered his verdict: Penny was to be banished from the Brennan estate.
“I allowed you to live here out of respect for Lauren, but I can no longer tolerate your presence. Pack your things and be gone by tomorrow.”
Seeing the matter settled, Lauren’s tense shoulders finally relaxed.
Anastasia glanced at her coolly before addressing a servant. “Benson still needs his medicine. Go and brew another batch, and this time, make sure no one gets near it.”
This time, Winni personally supervised the process.
