He hung up and immediately went to see his uncle, Chasel Dempsey.
Chasel controlled a majority of the pharmaceutical raw material supply chain in Fairhaven and was Unison Pharma's most crucial supplier.
"Terminate our partnership with Unison Pharma?"
Chasel was stunned by his nephew's request.
He refused without a second thought. "Jonas, are you joking? Yes, my company is a vital supplier for them, but Unison Pharma is just as vital a client for me."
"They've been our client for years, always offering fair prices and never missing a payment. No, absolutely not…"
"Uncle Murray, just hear me out," Jonas urged. "I'm not asking you to truly end the partnership. I just want you to put some pressure on them."
"Don't worry, you won't lose them as a client. Like you said, Unison Pharma can't afford to lose your supply chain."
"So, in the end, not only will they not sever ties with you, they'll have to beg you to continue. You could even use the opportunity to raise your prices. It's a win-win."
Chasel hesitated, tempted.
He wasn't a particularly capable businessman; his company's success was largely due to his late wife. Years ago, she had been friends with Cecilia, Anastasia's mother. Out of respect for that friendship, Unison Pharma had chosen them as their supplier and had never haggled over prices.
But people are greedy. For the past two years, he had been dissatisfied with their prices. While Unison Pharma paid more than other companies and was always on time, he felt that a company so flush with cash should be paying him more. His wife had shut down the idea when he'd first brought it up, but she had passed away a year ago.
Now, his nephew’s proposal reignited that old ambition.
Anastasia raised an eyebrow. *When? When I'm done using him, of course.*
After carefully assessing the company's situation, she had identified several weaknesses and hidden dangers. This was the perfect opportunity to address them one by one.
The first was the supplier issue.
The Dempsey family's prices were high, and the quality of their materials had been slipping in recent years. But because of her mother's friendship with the late Mrs. Dempsey, it had been difficult to switch suppliers.
Now that she was in charge, she had no intention of coddling them. Unison Pharma couldn't break the contract without cause, but if the other party broke it first, that was a different story.
A dark glint appeared in Anastasia's eyes as she considered this.
