Anastasia didn’t waste words. With a quick gesture, she had her bodyguard snatch the elevator keycard, and together they headed straight upstairs.
Meanwhile, on the 32nd floor, Unison Pharma Ltd. was already buzzing with its annual gala—a little earlier than usual this year.
On stage, the general manager, Regan Frost, was in the middle of his speech. As he wrapped up, he grinned and announced, “Tonight is special, and we have a very distinguished guest joining us. I think many of you have already guessed who it is—Ms. Lauren Brennan!”
He paused for effect before continuing, “And in just a little while, Ms. Lauren Brennan herself will host our prize draw. Whoever wins the grand prize tonight will walk away with a million-dollar bonus!”
The crowd exploded. One million dollars!
“Ms. Brennan is so generous!”
“I absolutely adore Ms. Brennan! She’s not just beautiful and kind—she’s brilliant, too. I heard even some of the leading figures in the medical field call her a genius. With her at the helm, Unison Pharma is destined for greatness!”
“Exactly! She’s incredible!”
The employees could barely contain their excitement, showering Lauren with praise.
Lauren was no stranger to the company. By now, everyone knew her well. At first, her true identity had been a mystery, but after she’d casually mentioned that Cecilia—the company’s former chairwoman—was her mother, and with Mr. Frost always treating her with the utmost respect, even hinting she’d soon be Unison’s new boss, the truth had become crystal clear.
From then on, everyone understood just how high Lauren stood in the company.
As for the employees, most were delighted with their future boss, the so-called medical prodigy.
They had no interest in watching Lauren bask in the limelight. The gala still had over an hour left, and to them, staying meant wasting an hour of their lives—something they weren’t about to do.
Just as the group stood to leave, the banquet hall doors burst open with a resounding crash.
A crowd appeared at the entrance, led by a striking young woman whose presence commanded attention. She swept her gaze over the stunned guests, her lips curving into a faint, confident smile.
Her voice rang out, clear and melodious, carrying easily across the room: “Such a lively party, and yet—no one thought to invite me?”
On stage, Lauren’s triumphant expression shattered in an instant.
