Everyone was eager to hear the answer.
Anastasia smiled and said, “It depends on the circumstances. But I won’t be dropping out of Kingsbridge University, so we’ll still be classmates.”
Her words drew laughter, and a collective sense of relief settled over the group.
After dinner, Anastasia arranged for a car to take everyone back to campus, but she kept Juliet with her, ushering her into the same car.
Juliet, having mistaken the fruit wine for punch, was now tipsy and dazed. If it hadn’t been for Claire keeping a close eye on her, no one might have noticed anything wrong.
“To the Brennan residence,” Anastasia instructed the driver.
With Juliet this drunk, she couldn’t relax unless she brought her cousin home herself.
Suddenly, Juliet giggled, her cheeks flushed a rosy pink. She was the quiet, gentle kind of drunk—no rowdiness, just dopey and sweet.
“What is it?” Anastasia turned toward her, her voice gentle.
Juliet didn’t answer. Instead, she wrapped her arms around Anastasia’s arm and leaned on her shoulder, nuzzling her cheek softly, mumbling something under her breath—a gesture so childlike and affectionate that Anastasia’s heart melted. She was suddenly reminded of the little cousin who used to chase after her everywhere as a child.
Over a decade had passed, but Juliet was still the same—so fond of Anastasia that even in sleep, she needed to hold on to her.
The car rolled smoothly through the city and finally stopped in front of the Brennan family’s stately home.
As the car rocked slightly to a halt, Juliet nearly slipped off Anastasia’s shoulder, the jolt snapping her back to her senses and sobering her up considerably.
“Anastasia, will you come in with me?” she asked eagerly, rubbing her eyes, her anticipation clear.
“Your results just came out, and you did so well. If you go in and tell Grandpa and the others yourself, they’ll be over the moon! Maybe they’ll even…”
It was dinnertime at the Brennan house, and everyone except Benson was already at the table.
But Juliet, distracted and impatient, brushed the towel aside. She walked straight to the head of the table, where the family patriarch sat.
“Grandpa, the results from Global Harmony Medical Institute are out. Anastasia scored full marks—first place! Did you know that?”
“What?!”
The news stunned the entire Brennan family.
