But Harrison was always perceptive. He narrowed his eyes, but in the end, didn’t press further. He just said, “I’m not planning to go out much these days.”
Hearing this, Anastasia finally let out a breath she hadn’t realized she was holding.
In her previous life, Alice had never been thrown out—she’d always clung to Harrison, flaunting her status as Mary’s daughter, getting whatever she wanted, whenever she wanted it.
But things were different this time. Maybe that incident would never happen now.
With that thought, Anastasia’s worries faded. She climbed out of the car, waved goodbye to Harrison, and started toward the school entrance.
That’s when she noticed people around her sneaking glances—at her, and at the sleek car behind her.
“Anastasia!”
Suddenly, Maggie and a couple of other girls spotted her.
Maggie called out, her voice bubbling with excitement as she ran over to Anastasia.
“You’re finally back! Is your foot okay now?”
“We were just talking about you, wondering when you’d return. Everyone’s been worried!”
“It’s all healed,” Anastasia replied with a relaxed smile. “Thanks for thinking of me.”
She actually got along well with Maggie and the group now. Even Sandra, who still sounded a bit awkward when talking to her, could more or less be called a friend.
“Was that the big boss? He drove you to school himself?”
Maggie shot a quick look at the car, then lowered her voice, eyes shining with curiosity.
“There are all kinds of theories,” Maggie went on. “Some think you barely know the boss, that you just happened to get hurt in front of him, and he’s so kind-hearted he took you to the hospital.”
“Others still believe Alice’s story—that you’re his secret lover, trying to steal him away… but ever since Alice’s real identity got exposed, and everyone found out she’s just the housekeeper’s daughter, hardly anyone believes her anymore. Only a few jealous girls still cling to that rumor.”
Most people, though, weren’t so easily fooled. They remembered how Alice had lied again and again. And the “kind-hearted boss” theory didn’t really add up—everyone had seen the way Harrison’s face changed when Anastasia nearly fell off the stage, and the urgency with which he’d carried her out of the hall. That was not the reaction of a stranger.
So, plenty of people were convinced that Anastasia and the boss definitely knew each other, and that there must be some kind of relationship there. But no matter how wild the speculation got, no one dared guess that they might actually be married.
Even if her friends tried to tell anyone, nobody would believe it—it would just sound too far-fetched.
Anastasia listened to all this without the slightest concern.
But when she glanced back and saw that Harrison’s car was still waiting at the curb, she considered for a moment, then turned to her friends and asked, “Do you want to come over and say hi to my husband?”
