At dinnertime, Anastasia arrived at the dining room brimming with anticipation.
Harrison had promised her—he would join her for dinner tonight.
But the room was empty. He wasn’t there yet. She sat down, determined to wait for him patiently.
Minutes ticked by, and still no sign of Harrison.
Unable to resist, she glanced upstairs and asked, "Where’s Mr. Lancaster?"
Mary replied coolly, "Mr. Lancaster is busy."
"But he promised to have dinner with me. Did you just call him?"
"I did. Mr. Lancaster doesn’t have time. You should eat first, ma’am."
Anastasia shot Mary a look but said nothing more. She stood up and headed for the stairs.
Mary’s expression darkened as she tried to intercept her, but Anastasia was quick, deftly slipping past and hurrying up.
She paused outside the study and knocked twice. Logan opened the door, surprised to see her. "Ma’am?"
Anastasia peered inside. "Is Mr. Lancaster still busy?"
Before Logan could answer, a low male voice sounded from within.
"What is it?"
Logan took the hint, stepping aside.
Now unobstructed, Anastasia saw him immediately—seated behind the broad desk, Harrison looked up as he set down a file. His profile was striking, aristocratic, and commanded attention without a word.
She felt her heart skip a beat, completely out of her control.
How had she never noticed how magnetic this man was before?
"It’s dinnertime," she reminded him gently, one hand resting on the doorframe.
Harrison glanced at his watch, finally recalling his promise.
"That’s my mistake. I’m sorry."
Mary could hardly contain her frustration.
It was just a minor issue—why was Anastasia acting as if she’d suffered some terrible wrong? And Mr. Lancaster was indulging her!
Seeing Mary’s sour look, Anastasia shot her a triumphant smile.
After dinner, Thomas arrived.
In addition to being Harrison’s trusted assistant, Thomas also served as his physician.
As Anastasia returned to her room, she came upon Thomas and Alice standing outside the master bedroom. Alice was holding a medical kit.
Thomas was explaining to Alice the steps to take when changing Harrison’s bandages.
Anastasia’s eyes narrowed instantly.
Changing bandages? Harrison had a wife right here—why did he need anyone else?
Noticing her approach, Alice straightened her back and flashed a challenging smile, deliberately showing off the kit in her hand.
