Barnett approached first. “Wayne.”
“Mm,” Wayne nodded, his gaze returning to Anastasia.
“This is Ana.”
Wayne was exercising great restraint, but his excitement was palpable. He walked up to Anastasia.
“Ana, I’m your father.”
Anastasia opened her mouth, but the word wouldn't come out.
She could feel Wayne’s affection, but this was, after all, their first meeting.
Barnett stepped in to ease the tension. “Ana is still a bit nervous. Let’s go to the hotel first.”
Wayne glanced at Anastasia again and nodded. “Alright.”
The group headed to the hotel Barnett had booked. As they got out of the car, Anastasia looked past Wayne and belatedly noticed the young man and woman.
They had been watching her the whole time, a clear desire to approach in their eyes, but they held back, likely because of Wayne.
When she met their gaze, the girl, who looked a year or two older than her, gave her a smile. It was a bit stiff, perhaps from nerves.
Their intense stares made Anastasia feel a little awkward. Just as she was about to return a polite smile, Harrison took her hand and led her inside.
Her attention shifted back to Harrison, and she missed the flicker of disappointment in the siblings' eyes.
Barnett got the room keys, and the group was about to head to the elevators when, suddenly, the Jones family appeared.
“Ana!” Mrs. Jones Sr. called out, rushing in from the entrance.
Anastasia turned. “Grandma?”
