“Barnett, what is it?” Anastasia asked.
Harrison also looked over at him.
Barnett looked at Anastasia with a complicated expression. He took a moment to compose himself before saying, “Don’t go with the Jones family yet. I… I know who your father is.”
His words stunned everyone in the private room.
But Barnett had no time to explain. He stood up quickly, grabbing his phone. “I need to make a call outside.”
He left in a hurry.
Anastasia was reeling from the bombshell Barnett had just dropped. She looked from the door to Harrison.
Harrison’s eyes flickered, as if a thought had occurred to him. He stroked her head gently. “Don’t worry. We’ll find out what’s going on when he comes back.”
Barnett’s call went across the ocean.
“I found the child! She’s not dead!”
A sharp clatter echoed from the other end of the line as the person dropped something. After a few seconds, a man’s hoarse voice, thick with suppressed emotion, came through the phone—
“Where?”
…
Anastasia kept her eyes fixed on the door. The moment Barnett returned, she asked, “Barnett, were you serious just now? Do you really know who my father is?”

Knowing she was nervous, Harrison stroked her hair and placed a soft kiss on her forehead. “It’s okay,” he soothed. “I’ll go with you.”
Anastasia felt a little more settled and nodded with a soft “Mm-hmm.”
On the way to the airport, Anastasia’s mind was a chaotic jumble of thoughts.
She turned to Harrison and said, “Barnett said before that… he… has been looking for my mother and me all this time. And now he’s come so quickly. Does that mean he cares about us?”
Throughout her childhood, whenever she thought of a father, she pictured Gabriel. His irresponsibility meant she had received very little fatherly love. In her life, the role of a father had always been vacant.
She knew nothing about Wayne, had never even met him. Now, on top of her nervousness, she felt a sense of apprehension. She couldn't help but wonder what kind of man he was. Would he care about her, his daughter?
