Chapter 218

Recently, Aiden’s company landed a major new project, and he had been working around the clock. Not long after Timothy left, Aiden flew to Westerland on a business trip.

Meanwhile, Valerie was at home, fully focused on preparing for her thesis defense, while also accepting Russell’s invitation to join a music competition show.

Right after her thesis defense came Aiden’s birthday.

In her previous life, she never properly celebrated Aiden’s birthday. Partly because she kept my distance from him, and partly because she just didn’t care enough. More often than not, by the time she remembered, his birthday

had already passed.

Thinking about all this, Valerie felt a pang of guilt.

At the mall, Valerie wandered into the men’s clothing section. Her gaze casually fell upon a shirt displayed on a mannequin, instantly bringing Aiden’s well–built physique to mind.

She thought, ‘He has an impeccable physique, and this shirt’s unique design would perfectly accentuate his

contours.

‘It would look amazing on him.‘

Valerie pictured how Aiden would look in that shirt, and a soft smile graced her lips.

“Ma’am?” A sales associate approached with a warm smile. “Are you here to pick out clothes for your husband? We’ve just received some new arrivals in menswear, would you like to come in and browse?”

Valerie smiled and nodded, eagerly stepping inside.

The other sales associates whispered among themselves. “She looks so plain in those clothes, no sense of style at all,” one muttered, “Can she even afford our stuff?”

One of the sales associates whispered, “All our clothes here start at over two thousand dollars each, not everyone can afford them. Hope we’re not wasting our time on her.”

Valerie didn’t catch their whispers, but she could sense their less–than–respectful gazes. Unfazed, she picked out a few items, and the sales associate expertly put together a complete outfit for her. The more Valerie admired it, the more it grew on her. “Wrap it up,” she told the associate without hesitation.

The other sales associates stared in shock as they watched Valerie swipe her card and leave. They immediately crowded around their colleague, whispering, “How did you know she could actually afford it? She looks just like a college student!”

The sales associate smiled knowingly and said, “She may look young, but did you notice? Her hair is just casually tied up, yet that hair accessory is this season’s new release from a top–tier international luxury brand, it costs over

The other sales associates whispered among themselves, “No way…”

“Over 2000 for a hair tie? That’s insane!” the other sales associates whispered in disbelief.

“When she was looking at our clothes, her face lit up with that newlywed glow, and she was wearing a diamond ring. I figured she must be happily married and head over heels for her husband, so I made sure to give her the VIP

treatment.”

Her instincts were spot–on.

While her coworkers were green with envy, Valerie remained completely oblivious to their reactions.

As she came home carrying her bag, Valerie found Kelly lounging on her sofa, playing with her phone. Spotting Valerie, Kelly grinned mischievously and called out, “Valerie, the day after tomorrow is my brother’s birthday. He’s in Westerland right now. Are you planning to go?”

Valerie paused, a little surprised. “Wait, you want to go to Westerland?”

“It’s not me going,” Kelly said with a sly grin, nudging Valerie playfully. “It’s you! He’s been there for a whole week, he must miss you terribly. Just imagine if you suddenly showed up and gave him a huge surprise. So romantic, right? Guess what, my brother would probably get so excited he’d just grab you and do this and that, and then this and that again…” She wiggled her eyebrows.

Valerie’s cheeks flushed as she nudged her friend. “What do you mean by all that stuff? Stop being so suggestive!”

Kelly burst out laughing and teased, “Why are you blushing? I never even said what I meant!”

Valerie cleared her throat and teased, “Are you the one who actually wants to go?”

“Nah,” Kelly said, winking slyly at her. “I’m just pointing you in the right direction. But if you want to go, I can come with you. Wanna go?”

Valerie pictured Aiden’s face, her heart skipping a beat. Then, her eyes curved into a smile as she replied softly, “Sure, let’s go.”

Kelly, who hadn’t been out for fun in ages, was absolutely thrilled, she practically ran home, packed her bags in a flash, and was all set to leave for Westerland the very next day.

It takes a full twelve hours to get from Reano City to Gharn. Right before departure, Kelly snapped a photo of th~ birthday gift Valerie had prepared for Aiden and sent it to him with a playful message. [Hey, when are you com. home? Your wifey misses you already, and your birthday present is all ready for you!]

Aiden was right in the middle of a meeting when the message popped up on his phone.

A glance at the gift wrapping, and his heart skipped a beat.

He’d completely forgotten his own birthday, yet she remembered.

The manager of the Westerlandian branch was giving his report when he noticed Aiden had zoned out. He paused mid–sentence, waiting for him to snap back to attention.

Aiden calmly set his phone aside and, in flawless Westerlandian, said, “Proceed.”

The manager gave a quick nod and wrapped up his report.

By the time Aiden wrapped up his work, the night had grown deep.

“Mr. Walker, Miss. Skinner is here to see you,” the temporary assistant announced.

With Aiden on a business trip abroad, Lennox remained in the country. For now, Aiden’s assistant was one of

Lennox’s executive secretaries.

Aiden frowned. “What does she want?”

“She mentioned that the joint project between the Skinner Group and the Walker Group has been reassigned to her, and she’d like to invite you to dinner to discuss it.”

Aiden’s frown deepened. “And what about Mr. Knowles?”

“Mr. Knowles, who was originally overseeing this project, has returned to the country. So… your instructions?”

Aiden checked the time.

He thought, ‘The project is nearly complete with most crucial details remain, and that’s the heart of the whole endeavor. Yet they actually have the audacity to switch people at this stage? How dare they pull such a move now!‘
