Chapter 217
Kelly quickly snapped out of it. Pretending she hadn’t seen Angelo at all, she turned away and headed in the other
direction.
Angelo hurried after Kelly at a jog, panting heavily as he called out, “Kelly… Kelly…”
Kelly heard the almost agonized cry and, in the end, couldn’t harden her heart completely. She turned back with icy detachment and said, “What do you want, Angelo? We’re over.”
Angelo’s face twisted in anguish as he pleaded, “Kelly, I’m sorry… I’m so, so sorry.”
“Whatever.” Kelly turned on her heel to leave.
Angelo suddenly cried out in pain, his voice breaking as he called, “Kelly,
Kelly felt a pang of unease and turned to look at him.

Angelo’s face was deathly pale, but he managed a weak smile. “See? You still care about me.”
Kelly didn’t respond.
Angelo gazed at Kelly with a face full of longing and regret, reaching out, trying to take her hand. “Kelly,” he pleaded softly, “I know I’ve been wrong all this time. Won’t you please forgive me?”
Kelly jerked her hand away from his grasp. “Angelo,” she snapped, “are you out of your mind?”
Angelo looked at her, utterly confused.
“Who do you think you are?” Kelly said coldly. “If anyone screamed like that, I’d stop and check on them. You know I’ve always been soft–hearted, so don’t flatter yourself thinking it’s about you.”
Kelly thought, ‘So full of yourself.‘
Angelo couldn’t accept this emotional whiplash. He pleaded, “Kelly, after all the time we’ve spent together, don’t you feel anything for me at all?”
“Yes,” Kelly said, her eyes brimming with tears. “But no amount of feelings gives you the right to use me for Renata. Angelo, I did love you, but you’re not worthy of it!”
She glared at him and snapped, “You don’t deserve me!”
Angelo was left reeling by those words. Seeing Kelly about to leave again, he desperately rushed after her, calling out, “Kelly…”
But then, two burly bodyguards stepped in front of him, blocking his way. One of them said sternly, “Sir, please behave yourself.”

Chapter 217
Angelo’s face drained of all color, going deathly pale.
He thought, ‘This is the difference between a rich heiress like her and me. She never goes anywhere without bodyguards, while that day, when I was blocked at the door and mocked and humiliated… If I’d had bodyguards too, my injuries wouldn’t have been so severe.‘
This realization only strengthened Angelo’s resolve to get back together with Kelly. From that day on, straight days, he waited for her along the route she took to work.
But Kelly only appeared in Angelo’s life for two days before vanishing completely from his sight.

He tried calling her, but her phone was always off. His messages were blocked. After a week of this, he finally approached the company’s security desk, only to be told that Kelly had already resigned and returned to her family’s company as CEO.
From that point on, Angelo was utterly crushed, unable to pull himself together.
Just then, a girl named Tiffany Sims appeared in his life. Clutching a stack of papers, her hair tied in an innocent, cute ponytail, she tilted her head and gave him a sweet smile. “Hi there! Is there anything I can help you with?”
At that moment, Angelo felt his heart skip a beat, he was falling for her.
Kelly didn’t hear about Angelo again until six months later.
Angelo was swindled out of all his money. After Tiffany pocketed his money, she vanished without a trace, leaving Angelo to drown his sorrows in alcohol ever since.
But that was a story for another time.
Stranded in the countryside and unable to get a ticket back to Reano City, Jeana waited three long days before finally deciding to transfer to the neighboring town, a detour that stretched her journey to a full two exhausting
days.
By the time she returned to Reano City, Valerie’s back injury had mostly healed. As long as she didn’t overexert herself, she could do almost anything. That day, she was at home teaching Timothy to play the piano.
Timothy had a natural gift for the piano. Though his small hands couldn’t yet reach the full octaves, after Valerie taught him a song just once, he could play back more than half of it, a true prodigy for his age.
Suddenly, the doorbell rang, it was Jeana.
Carrying an armful of gifts, Jeana had just stepped inside when her little boy spotted her. Overjoyed, he dashed straight over and threw himself into her arms, calling out, “Mommy!”
Equally excited, Jeana scooped her son up and showered his face with kisses. “Did you miss Mommy?” she asked eagerly.

“Yes!” Timothy shouted, his young voice ringing out loud and clear.
Standing to the side, Valerie watched the tender moment between mother and son. A heartfelt smile spread across her face as she murmured, “This is true happiness.”
Jeana set her son down. “Once your back is fully healed, you should hurry up and have one of your own!”
Valerie smiled gently. “We’re not ready for that yet.”
‘Having a child right now would be completely irresponsible,‘ Valerie thought to herself.
Jeana figured Valerie was just being modest because she was still young, so she didn’t push the issue. Gratefully, she tried to thrust money and gifts into Valerie’s hands, but Valerie adamantly refused. Growing anxious, Jeana insisted, “You have to accept this! After all you’ve done for me, if you don’t take anything, my conscience won’t let
me rest…”
Valerie gave a playful wink. “Then why not let your son become mine? How about letting me be Timothy’s
godmother?”
Jeana’s eyes lit up. “Really?”
Jeana thought to herself, ‘I’m always swamped with work, but Valerie is truly dependable. If there ever comes a time when I can’t take care of my son, I can entrust him to her with complete peace of mind.‘
Subconsciously glancing around Valerie’s luxury mansion, she demurred, “Having you as his godmother would be
far above my station…”
Valerie put on a mock frown. “What kind of nonsense is that? Are you saying I’m not good enough to be your son’s godmother?”
