“I’m leaving. Get some rest, Grandpa,” Aiden said, turning to leave. He paused, then added with a hint of sarcasm, “If you’re fine, there’s no need to stay in the hospital. This sympathy play of yours isn’t fooling anyone.”

Waylon choked, trembling with rage as he watched his grandson’s retreating back. “Ungrateful wretch!” he spat out angrily.

Aiden stepped out of the hospital room, only to realize Valerie was nowhere to be seen, his heart instantly sank with dread.

It wasn’t hard to imagine what Waylon had said to her, probably the same harsh words. Knowing him, he was likely even more ruthless and cruel with Valerie than he ever was with his own beloved grandson.

Aiden turned to Kelly and demanded, “Where’s Valerie?”

Kelly replied, “Valerie said she had urgent matters at school, so she went back.”

Aiden scoffed inwardly, ‘A school emergency?

‘She just finished the competition, what could possibly be so urgent?

‘Please, that’s nothing but an excuse.‘

Aiden’s expression was dark as he left the hospital. He dialed Valerie’s number repeatedly, but each call went unanswered. By the fifth attempt, her phone had been turned off.

Aiden’s heart wrenched as he pictured Valerie’s usual look of insecurity. ‘Did she really take the old man’s words to heart and get ready to leave me?‘ he wondered anxiously.

At the thought of this possibility, Aiden’s expression darkened further, and an intimidating chill radiated from him. He made several more calls, each one, without exception, went straight to voicemail.

Frustrated, Aiden tossed his phone onto the passenger seat and sped off to Valerie’s apartment near the university.

But she wasn’t there.

He waited for a while. When the university’s lunch break finally began, crowds of students streamed out through the campus gates, their eyes immediately drawn to a sleek Rolls–Royce parked outside.

Adrienne and Elbert Yule were horsing around as they ran out of the academic building. When Adrienne spotted Aiden, she froze in shock. Too intimidated to speak directly, she cautiously asked, “Mr. Walker? What brings you here?”

“Where is she?” Aiden asked, trying to soften his usually icy tone so as not to intimidate Valerie’s friends. Even so, Adrienne and Elbert still visibly recoiled

at his presence.

Adrienne, of course, knew exactly who he meant. She stammered nervously, “Valerie hasn’t been to school. She went to Endver City for the competition. You… you didn’t know?”

Aiden frowned.

Aiden thought, ‘It seems she didn’t contact Adrienne. So where on earth could she have gone?‘

Aiden tossed her a business card and ordered, “Call me the moment she contacts you.”

“Okay!” Adrienne stammered, nodding frantically like a bobblehead.

Aiden hurried away, but there was still no sign of Valerie. Growing desperate, he even mobilized the Walker Group’s hackers to infiltrate surveillance

The entire IT department of the Walker Group was on edge, frantically scouring every corner for the CEO’s wife. Their eyes were practically going blind from staring at the screens, yet she was nowhere to be found.

Night fell quickly.

Valerie lost track of time chatting with Pearl. When she left, she realized her phone had died, and she didn’t have any cash on her. She had to find a convenience store to borrow a charger. As soon as her phone powered back on, it was flooded with notifications.

Suddenly, her phone lit up with over a dozen missed calls.

Most were from Aiden, with a few from Adrienne.

Valerie’s heart skipped a beat. She thought, ‘Oh no, this isn’t good. Aiden’s always so insecure and possessive, After all these missed calls, he probably thinks I’ve run off, doesn’t he?

‘No, no, no! This can’t happen! If he locks me up over something like this, that’d be way too unfair!‘

Valerie immediately called back, her heart pounding with anxiety.

Aiden answered instantly, as if he’d been clutching his phone waiting for her call. Valerie said hurriedly, “Hello?”

Aiden’s voice was dark with suppressed anger. Valerie could practically picture the thunderous look on his face as he growled, “Where the hell have you

been?”

“I’m right near the hospital. I swear I didn’t run off, my phone just died.”

Hearing this, Aiden’s heart, which had been on edge all afternoon, miraculously settled. Yet his voice turned even icier as he demanded through gritted teeth, “Your location. Now.”

Valerie quickly sent him her location, and barely ten minutes later, a Rolls–Royce pulled up right outsi

convenience store.

The convenience store was bustling with people. When a Rolls–Royce pulled up, the crowd stopped in their tracks, craning their necks in amazement to get a better look.

Aiden stepped out of the car, phone in hand, and dialed Valerie’s/number. The moment the call connected, he spotted her through the convenience store window, sitting there, happily eating.

Her cheeks were adorably puffed with food when she noticed her phone ringing and fumbled to answer it. At that exact instant, Aiden heard her voice through the receiver, “Hello?”

Valerie’s stomach had been growling for ages. She had just ordered some food and was right in the middle of eating when his call came in. Quickly wiping her mouth with the back of her hand, she picked up and said, “Hello?”

But Aiden remained silent on the other end. ‘Maybe the signal’s bad,’ Valerie thought, checking her phone. Before she could react, she suddenly sensed an intimidating presence close by.

Valerie instinctively turned around, only to find Aiden standing right behind her, phone in hand, his face dark with barely contained fury,

An icy aura radiated from him, chilling the air like a human refrigerator. Everyone instinctively gave him a wide berth.

Valerie instinctively forced a smile, her expression tinged with nervous appeasement. “You… so soon?” she stammered.

A weight dropped in Aiden’s chest. He seized Valerie’s hand and pulled her abruptly into his arms, holding her in a crushing embrace
