Samantha gave her a strange look and asked, “So, there’s nothing between you and Sean?”

“Well, if there’s nothing, I’ll make a move now,” Valerie said.

“Hold on, you’re not his girlfriend?” Samantha asked.

“No,” Valerie said.

“I see.” Samantha put away her sunglasses and said, “Well then, let’s chat. I like making friends, especially with someone as good–looking as you. Let me buy you a meal.”

Valerie was speechless. It was hard to turn her down. Moreover, Valerie quite liked her style.

Samantha soon found a Milenese Restaurant and booked a private room. The two, sitting on floor cushions, looked at each other in silence.

Samantha cleared her throat and asked, “So, when did you meet Sean?”

“What are you up to?” Valerie looked at her curiously and asked. “Do you like Sean?”

Samantha, taking a sip of coffee at that moment, suddenly choked. Her cheeks flushed, and it was hard to tell if it was due to choking or embarrassment.

Valerie took a sip of coffee, smiling faintly. “What’s the matter with you? You’ve just broken up with your fiancé, and you have a new target so soon?”

Samantha, as if afraid Valerie might misunderstand something, said, “And besides, I’m not the one who likes him first. I think you’ve figured that out from what happened today, that he’s the one who likes me.”

Valerie, chuckling, said, “I think he was just playing the hero.”

“He’s not the meddling type,” Samantha said with certainty.

Valerie asked, “What makes you so sure?”

“Because we dated back in high school,” Samantha said.

Valerie was lost for words.

Samantha seemed to sense her confusion and explained, “It was just a teenage romance, and my family didn’t allow it.”

Valerie studied her for a moment and asked. “Why didn’t you two be together after that?”

“Because he had way too many women around him,” Samantha said.

“Does he have fewer women around him now?”

“He should be just messing around.”

“I see.”

“You’re not his girlfriend, are you?”

“No,” Valerie replied.

Samantha heaved a sigh of relief and said, “That’s good. Alright, go ahead and order whatever you want. it’s on me?”

Valerie was speechless, and the two, facing each other, fell into silence.

After the meal, Valerie received a message from Sean. They had added each other on WhatsApp before boarding the plane, and just now, Valerie did the same with Samantha.

Sean: [Valerie, did Samantha look for you?]

Valerie: [Yeah.]

Sean: [Damn it! I should’ve just ignored her. What if she thinks I still can’t get over her? That would be so awkward. She didn’t tell you anything, did she?

Valerie was right to the point. [She said you still can’t get over her.]

Sean: [Holy shit! That shameless woman!]
