"That's to be expected, but it can't be helped. With talent like his, this was bound to happen. Now, before we proceed with the Essence Transfusion, you need to cozy up to him a bit. That way, we can speed things along," Martin reminded.
"I don't need to flatter him at all. With my looks and figure, if I just beckon him with a finger, he'd immediately crawl over like a dog and lick my feet. Even if I made him lick my toes, he'd be so excited he wouldn't know up from down," Heather said disdainfully.
Martin then approached Korbin and said, "My daughter has agreed to the agreement. What are your thoughts, Mr. Gardner?"
Korbin frowned slightly. To be honest, he didn't want to agree.
He had planned to nurture him carefully, even considering marrying off Kaitlyn to secure Sebastian's loyalty to the Netherworld Sect.
However, if Sebastian became Martin's son-in-law, there was a risk that he could be poached.
Still, Martin's request was reasonable, and Korbin wasn't Sebastian's elder, so he really had no grounds to refuse.
Korbin said, "I have no objections, but this will ultimately depend on Sebastian's decision."
Martin smirked with satisfaction as he had full confidence in Heather. She was young, beautiful, held status and power, and was highly talented in cultivation. He believed that there wasn't any man who would reject her.
He confidently looked at Sebastian and asked, "Sebastian, will you marry Heather?"
Everyone present was both envious and jealous. First, Kiran wanted to marry his granddaughter to Sebastian, then Tyler tried to do the same, and now Martin wanted to offer his daughter as well. Why was Sebastian getting all the good stuff?
"I refuse."
Just as everyone assumed Sebastian would accept without hesitation, he shocked them all with an outright refusal.
"What? You're refusing?"
Heather instantly fumed as she stormed forward, "I am the most beautiful woman in Holton, the city lord's daughter. I'm undoubtedly a phoenix from the heavens, while you are merely a lowly commoner. You should be grateful that I'd even consider lowering myself to marry you. How dare you refuse?"
"You can try," Sebastian replied coldly.
He knew he had done nothing wrong. These father and daughter had been forcing his hand relentlessly, and now they were openly threatening him. It was beyond frustrating.
Everyone was shocked.
"Holy crap! This guy actually has the nerve to talk back to the City Lord. He's got some serious guts!"
"He's completely clueless. Although he is impressive, he hasn't even fully developed yet. If the City Lord wanted him dead, it'd be a piece of cake. Let's be real, he's just a commoner.
"Standing up to the City Lord like this is pure insubordination. If the City Lord kills him on the spot, no one is going to dare say a thing."
The crowd nodded in agreement.
