Reborn From Ashes novel Chapter 109

The Sterlings were visibly upset.

"I was just worried about you," Hayden said. "Why treat me like this? I've been away for days. How would I know if something happened to you? Am I wrong to care about you?"

He mimicked Morgan, adopting a look of pitiful grievance and lowering his head. At that moment, he finally understood what it felt like to be Morgan.

It was exhilarating.

Using passive-aggressive words while sounding overly considerate left no room for others to rebuke or demean him further.

Sure enough, the room fell silent after his words. Everyone exchanged puzzled glances.

"You're… worried about us?"

Julia seemed conflicted, biting her lip lightly. It did sound like concern, though the words were jarring.

Only Morgan remained frozen, staring at Hayden with a flash of coldness in his eyes. Something was off with him. He had become manipulative.

Only someone of the same nature could recognize it.

Morgan suddenly felt a pang of unease. What if Hayden stirred up trouble?

After all the effort he had made to push Hayden out of the family, he couldn't let anything derail that now.

"Hayden meant well. He probably just struggled to find the right words, but his intentions are still good,” Morgan said quickly, playing the peacemaker.

"Exactly. I've never been as eloquent as Morgan. I can't say the kinds of things people like to hear. I know my shortcomings. My poor communication skills have made me unlikable, but I'll work hard to change that. I really am clueless about how to talk to all of you."

Hayden bit his lip, his expression full of sorrow and regret.

The Sterlings exchanged glances, unsure of what to say for a moment. They all felt that he had truly changed. It seemed like he had become more humble.

"Go on, then. Didn't you say you had something to discuss?" Hayden said seriously.

Morgan looked up at him, his thoughts swirling.

This guy was definitely strange.

Suddenly, an idea struck him. Hayden would reveal his true nature if he pushed him into a corner.

A sly glint flashed in Morgan's eyes.

"Hayden, I'd like you to attend my birthday party and help me draft a speech. After all, I'm heading to Brighton University. That spot was originally yours, so I'm sure you can empathize with me.

"Oh, and I would like you to sit in some back corner during the party. We wouldn't want you tarnishing the Sterling family's reputation."
