"Lauren, you know him?"
Lauren lifted her chin proudly.
"Of course! He married my cousin. Technically, that makes him my brother-in-law."
The crowd gasped in admiration, while Penelope just stared in shock.
Since when was Lauren her cousin? Penelope sure didn't remember that.
Seeing Penelope's reaction, Lauren let out a mocking laugh.
"Penelope, get lost already. We wouldn't want Mr. Dominic to be put off by your cheap outfit."
Just then, a commotion erupted outside.
A tall, commanding man in an impeccably tailored suit stepped out of the elevator, instantly drawing everyone's attention.
"Oh my God, is that Mr. Dominic ? He's even hotter in person!"
People rushed toward him, eager to make an impression, all smiles and nods.
Lauren cleared her throat.
"He must be here to congratulate me on my wedding! Jason, let's go say hi."
She grabbed Jason's arm and practically dragged him forward, flashing her best smile.
But Dominic walked right past them.
He stopped in front of Penelope instead, his gaze softening as he reached out to wipe the sweat from her forehead.
"Babe, why are you still working this late?"
The ruthless, untouchable CEO suddenly became the definition of gentle as he lowered his head and rested it against Penelope's shoulder.
"I had back-to-back meetings all day. I'm exhausted."
"Can you keep me company tonight?"
Hearing his words, Penelope suddenly realized she had been so busy with work lately that she hadn't spent much time with him.
Feeling a little guilty, she ruffled his hair.
"You've been working so hard. Let's take the night off and just relax, okay?"
Instantly, his entire face lit up.
"Really? You're the best, babe!"
But Lauren, oblivious as ever, kept pushing.
"No, really! I'm your wife's cousin!"
"We even wanted to ask you to officiate our wedding, but my cousin said you were too busy."
Penelope studied Lauren's face. She didn't seem like she was lying…
Did she actually think her cousin was married to Dominic ?
Dominic let out a sharp laugh and casually pushed Lauren aside.
Then he turned to Penelope, his voice dripping with amusement.
"Babe, is she your cousin?"
Penelope shook her head.
"Nope."
The room fell into another round of dead silence.
Lauren's face turned red with embarrassment as she stammered, "T-That's not possible! My cousin told me herself!"
