The receptionist didn't think to hide anything from Charlotte and told her everything that had happened today.
Charlotte looked at the receptionist with a complex expression. Just then, the elevator arrived, and she got in with her thermos.
James's office was on the top floor, so it only took a few seconds. When she stepped out of the elevator, his assistant was just walking out of James's office looking worried. He was startled when he saw her.
"Madam, you're here."
"How is he?"
"Mr. Chancer has a headache. You should go in and see him," the assistant said, stepping aside.
As soon as Charlotte entered, she saw James resting his chin on his hand, wearily rubbing his temples with the other. She walked over slowly, placed the thermos on the desk, and gently put her hands on James's temples to massage them.
Without opening his eyes, James caught her perfume scent. "Charlotte, what brings you here today?"
Charlotte said softly, "I realized it's been a long time since I came to have lunch with you. Mom didn't go play cards today, so she's watching the baby, and I happened to have time to come over."
There was another reason she didn't mention—last night's incident had kept her awake, thinking about those torn photos. What if James held a grudge?
Before, she might not have cared, but now she couldn't afford to. They had a child together—she couldn't let her son grow up without a father. She had to ensure her son grew up in a harmonious family environment.
"You don't understand business matters. Even if I had agreed then, how could you know that old fox from the Wilson family would play by the rules?" he said indifferently.
Charlotte opened the thermos, revealing the pure white bone broth inside, its aroma filling the air. She poured a bowl and pushed it toward James, saying gently, "It wasn't for the Sanders family, was it?"
"What do you mean?"
"Nothing specific, just saying what comes to mind. James, can we please not get involved in Wilson Corporation's affairs? Whether you refused Mr. Wilson for Sarah's sake or for the Sanders family, promise me you won't meddle in Sanders family matters anymore, okay?" Charlotte's voice was very soft—even she was afraid of getting a negative answer from James.
James looked at her quietly until he closed his eyes wearily. "I don't know what you're talking about."
